Okay.

My parents' AOL contract has run out and they're happy to consider a different ISP.

Currently they have a NTL phone line, but they're going to change to a BT one to get more choice.

So far we're looking at:

http://www.homecall.co.uk/ukoffer/broadband.asp

My parents don't use th internet heavily, but when my brotehr & me come back from Uni, we'll probably use it quite a lot (especially if I bother to set up a wireless network). So we don't want it capped, but don't neccessarily need a really fast connection.

Recommendations? General advice?

Thanks

plus.net is good. it has a soft cap, but theyre pretty reasonable about it. look here plus.net/support/features/sustainable_usage_guide.shtml (i cant post direct links yet)
youll want broadband premier, not broadband plus or payg.

My mother uses Nildram's L 15.99 a month 2Gbit link. I use their unlimited service. No technical problems at all so far (2 years in December).
Not the cheapest though, as they want the 58 quid or whatever BT connect fee up front, some outfits waive this if you take a 1 year contract. Nildram operate on a monthly basis.
No sense paying for a big monthly download cap if it won't be used.
You get 100MB free webspace with most of their accounts. I think they are part of Pipex now.

Have you looked at www.talktalk.co.uk? Check out their combined landline and broadband packages. I use pipex myself.

I hope you mean 2Mbit, or Nildram are ripping me off something awful for mine. But yes, I can recommend Nildram. Good speed, fully reliable service, brilliant customer support, and a 50GiB cap. I can no longer recommend Easynet. Zen and Eclipse are supposed to be good.

Cheers,
Rat.
