Inflating the borrowed money away is called "monetization of the debt", and is nothing new -- the government has been doing it for a century or more, and plans on it.

Heck, I believe a couple of economists won the Nobel Prize for Economics for "proving" that stagflation could be beneficial. But then Carter got trounced at the election by Reagan.
