MP fronts court over shooting son

A Western Australian Liberal MP accused of shooting his son during a rabbit hunt has appeared in court.
The incident happened on the politician's farm at Pemberton in the state's south-west.
Member for Warren-Blackwood, Paul Omodei, arrived at the Manjimup Courthouse surrounded by family and friends.
He has been charged with committing a dangerous act causing bodily harm after allegedly shooting his son in the hand with a 0.22 calibre rifle.
The 32-year-old required seven-and-a-half hours of surgery and has suffered permanent injuries to his thumb.

What the story doesn't say is exactly how it happened. They were in the dark, looking for pests that were attacking their crops. They stopped to fix some equipment that looked damaged. The son went up to the equipment, but, in the dark, called for more light. The father obliged, by ponting the torch that was attached to his rifle.

Australian - he wouldn't have been able to hold a can so it was either fix it or let him die.

Anybody else is reminded of how Winkle shot Tupman in Pickwick?

One would think that the dumbest politician would do something stupid of a political nature. This is just a gun accident like many others and has nothing to do with politics.

Perhaps, but that's pretty dumb. Lesson 3 of guns is "Never point a gun at anything you don't intend to shoot at," with the corrolary "especially your son."

Lessons 1 and 2, for the uninitiated, are "Always act as if the gun is loaded" and "Reread Rule 1."

Note really.

Always treat the gun as if it is loaded.
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
Never put your finger on the trigger unless you are ready to shoot. He violated both rules 2 and 3.

Of course, the order is totally negotiable. :)

Perhaps, AUP, he's a good example for Dubya to actually follow! ;)

Oh, Crikey!I doubt he will be saying that. It will be MUCH worse!

"You rotten little [Rule 8]er! Next time I [Rule 8]ing shoot you, put your [Rule ]ing head in the [Rule 8]ing way, and not your [Rule 8]ing thumb!"
