MP fronts court over shooting son
A Western Australian Liberal MP accused of shooting his son during a rabbit hunt has appeared in court.
The incident happened on the politician's farm at Pemberton in the state's south-west.
Member for Warren-Blackwood, Paul Omodei, arrived at the Manjimup Courthouse surrounded by family and friends.
He has been charged with committing a dangerous act causing bodily harm after allegedly shooting his son in the hand with a 0.22 calibre rifle.
The 32-year-old required seven-and-a-half hours of surgery and has suffered permanent injuries to his thumb.
What the story doesn't say is exactly how it happened. They were in the dark, looking for pests that were attacking their crops. They stopped to fix some equipment that looked damaged. The son went up to the equipment, but, in the dark, called for more light. The father obliged, by ponting the torch that was attached to his rifle.
