be a word that, if not vulgar, should be? Nothing political, just the word itself. Like a plural version of a male body part.

I'd WAG that about half the people mean it exactly that way about half the time.

No, you're not. I wrote about the same things a few years ago, but I think it was lost in the prunings.
It's just "Supreme Court." Nothing else is required or implied. "SCOTUS" is ugly, unnecessary, and ... hell, it's ugly.

Whereas POTUS puts me in mind of a small mammel, I'm not sure why.

Perhaps. But they may have conflicts with the Penal Authorities.
