Uhm, I think that needs a warning. That's a pretty intense picture set.
That's terrible if true. Can this be verified/refuted?

Well...
I'm sorry to inform everyone that this set of images has been around a long, long time....
This is NOT punishment for a crime...
This is for entertainment...The boys father is holding the microphone...and he, and the child, do this 'stunt' for money...
If you viewed the entire set you would see 'snake charmers'...'street magicians' in close proximity etc...
Never believe everything you read on the web...
These images have been on...
Goregasm
Ogrish
WTF
Steak and Cheese
SnuffX
Abum
Ebaum
And every other 'unusual picture' website out there...
This has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt ( at least 18 months ago ) to be someone that is so desperate for money that he subject his son to this, for monetary gain...
The man is named..and so is the boy..this is a travelling act...
I'm a bit surprised that someone has not really looked into this...and made an assumption from one websites 'say so'
Its old..Its not what it seems...and has been totally proven to be not what its claimed in the opening post...

I'm glad. Looking at them again, you're right, the man does have a microphone in his hand, making the "stunt" explanation far more likely.
Are you aware of a source for debunking these picts?

Yes...
On all the sites i listed above...None of which are 'safe for work'...and i'm not going to go thru 18 months worth of archives to find the links...
The entire set shows the boy going round the crowd with a bucket after.....

These really need to be debunked. I've seen them on three different websites, and googling Siamak yari and peykeiran isn't comming up with anything useful.

Mycroft...
Then go visit all those sites above...search thru 18 months of archived pics and debunk it for us...
I've told you what i know...It was also in a few asian newspapers for what it was...
Believe it or not.. It was debunked at least 18 months ago....
Oh well..skeptics..can't live with them...can't live without 'em...

Just on a goof, I went over to LGF, and sure enough, there it is (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=18073_Religion_of_Peace_vs._8-Year_Old_Boy#comments). Complete with snide title: "Religion of Peace versus 8-year-old-boy."
Odd how, amidst posts with poignant prose like "Good muslim = dead muslim" and "such is Islam", there's nary a skeptical voice to be heard. Makes you wonder how reliable a site like that really is.
ETA: Nope, there's one, Mycroft. To his credit. Unfortunately, it remains one out of 247.

I understand the problem and am not blaming you. I'm trying to source these pictures, but it's not easy to search for picts. We have a tendency to think of skepticism versus the paranormal, but skepticism versus this kind of racist trash has more a immediate impact in real life.
I’m not blaming you, Atlas. It looks like you were suckered.

I looked. I got down to 150 before I got fed up with comments like "Koranimals," snide bits about leftists, Abu Ghraib, and the like. Any skeptical posts must have been very few and far between.
Dude...Whatever you think of me, of my politics, whatever, you seriously need to reevaluate the company you keep. Ugh.

I can't read arabic but if the photos are in order here then the boy looks pretty much unharmed in number 8.

The text under #8 reads, roughly, "There is no might or strength but in Allah; the praise of Allah is on the blessing of Islam and the mind."

ok, the more I read the more of the page geni found, the more it seems that this is a stunt.
Apparently this father & son team tour; the father preaches a bit, then the son does his thing. It's a religious revival-type thing.
(ETA: If people want a more detailed translation, it'll have to wait until this evening. My Arabic is not as fluent as I'd like, and much of that page is colloquial rather than MSA.)

That's Farsi--or some other language that uses a similar alphabet to Arabic, like Urdu or Pashtun. Can't help you there.

Unforunately those sites don't seem very useful for debunking. I seem to be able to get only pics 1-4, and being in a different language makes it unclear.
Edited to add:
Kudos to Manny for lending another skeptical voice to the comments section at LGF.

That's terrible if true. Can this be verified/refuted?I should have added a warning. I saw the link on Little Green Footballs like Cleon mentioned.
When I saw the photos I was shocked and pretty much willing to believe that it was an example of Islamic justice. The blanket looked out of place to me though. I wondered whether there was another explanation.
It's kinda strange. I was willing to believe a society could be insane enough to do that to a child but it seemed out of the question that a parent would stage such an event with his own child.
In a very odd way I'm happy to be wrong.
That is, it is likely that the child was unharmed. To me, it's the kind of trick that will, inevitably, be done once to often. I think the kid is looking at a screwed up future.

I wouldn't worry about the kid. This is a carnival act, not unlike what you would see on cable if you watch Criss Angel's "Mindfreak" show. They play up the danger, purposefully make it look as bad as it can look, but the child is not in any real danger.

Physical danger, maybe. Psychological/emotional danger, I'm not so sure.

Kudos to Manny for lending another skeptical voice to the comments section at LGF.And to you for getting the ball rolling.
Charles probably won't fix it though. He does a good enough job aggregating links, but frankly I wish there were someone else out there doing it. His factual standards are below those of the MSM he criticizes and he increasingly seems to be a reflection of the "nuke 'em all" racists and genocidists who make up all too many of his commenters.

So we are now left with the question of how the trick was done. I can see three options:
Exactly as it appeared. I suspect that this would result in bruising most of the time rather than any more serious damage
Something hidden in the cloth. While this fits with the kid lying on it at the start this aproach would still be somewhat risky.
Messing with the wight distitbution/suspension of the car. Probably the safest option from the POV of getting caught but would reqire a reasonable amount of skill to get right.

I have an idea, actually. I think the trick reveals itself by the peculiar way the blanket is folded. If the trick works as in my sketch, it can be casually rolled up without the bars falling out.
Hopefully this doesn't fall under the 'don't reveal secrets' rule.

I'm guessing a combination of something in the blanket and the weight distribution of the car. I notice the tire doesn't look like a normal tire for that kind of car, one would expect something wider.

In my opinion that's kind of a lame retraction and disapointing from Charles. He should say very openly "We were duped, these photos were misrepresented." Instead he leaves too much room for "fake but accurate" weaseling.
