That fat fundie lady was hilarious. She is in serious need of mental help, specifically regarding stress management...

I just couldn't stop shaking my head in disbelief about how BONEHEADED she was. Everything was "I'm uncomfortable" and yet she had no CLUE about how her own preaching made others uncomfortable. Because SHE was RIGHT in her mind... and those SATAN WORSHIPERS were WRONG!

My oh my, what happens when two groups (who are both wrong) collide!

My god, I was wondering if someone was gonna bring this up. My wife made me watch it on Tivo last night.

All I kept thinking was Sagan's "Demon Haunted World" "Demon Haunted World" "Demon Haunted World", over and over again.

And I know they edit these things to make certain people appear a certain way, but sheesh. Her teenage dancer girl, what a marvelous girl, and how happy she was with the "other" mom, yet this crank comes back and she's all worry-eyed.

In this hyper-Christian's world (which, I technically cannot argue she is incorrect) all the other religions aren't just false, they are actively guided creations of the devil.

I'm sure there's some psychological thing going on, where such beliefs appeal to the ego because you get the psychological kick of knowing about "important" things going on, and you are in the center of some of it!

It made me very unconfortable that they did that to that woman.
She obviously has a very deep religous belief that surpasses fanaticism and seems to be driven by some major mental illness.
When you are raised in a church that teaches you the end days are coming and that if you sin you will suffer eternal damnation her reactions are very predictable.
Christians are often taught that all other religions are false, that anything associated with paganism is devilish and that there are forces in the world that are actively trying to subvert goodness.
As an american she has been taught that the way of the herd is the only path, that 'others' are to be considered bomb toting terrorist or devil worshipers and that any deviation from the herd will immeadeatly threaten her soul.
She has been taught to fear, consider herself superior and think that 'god will punish those who piss him off.

But I do think it is way COOL that they portrayed a pagan new age family as so cool and friendly.

My wife has pointed out that both families are stereo types.

They also made it seem like the pagan woman was the dancing child's new lifehood, and that, bom bom bommmmmmm! the return of fatso caused the newly opened up dancing child to become all closed down and depressed.

Yet does anyone think it was daddy or fasto taking the child to dance and encouraging her? The real momma? Ya. But no mention of that. Very smarmy. No, pagan momma came in and suddenly the daughter is full of life and dancing, which she never did before! Oh no! Here comes fatso back to hurt her own daughter!

What I really found most amusing, and boy did I find a great many things amusing, was the "tainted" money she did not want and then tore up the evelope. She did not have any problem distributing the money nicely for the "evil" family. Why not? Perhaps she was putting on a bit of a show for the cameras? I do not doubt she believes the things she said, and perhaps she does have some mental issues, but I think she was performing a bit too. At the end they even tell the audience she accepted the money. That was the final straw for my opinion.

Yes, next week they'll be having the International version where a Hindu woman from Calcutta will be living with a White Supremicist beef rancher in Texas.

Yep. The fundamentalist stereotype is the joyless couple out in front of the house in American Gothic. The pagan stereotype is a bunch of fat ladies and hippies dancing around a fire chanting stuff like "Peace for the Earth mother."

The show was both amusing and disturbing. The "fundy lady" was so far beyond the pale that I have to wonder, like Dancing David, if there is mental inllness involved. My sympathies are limited in that she did volunteer for this. Surely she couldnt have expected people to match her religious devotion, even if she could not have anticipated the way the switch was. And her failure to actually read the bible to look for ways to handle the situation isn't suprising either. After all, Jesus didnt refuse to walk among the sinners. I felt especially bad about the family when she returned. They had had what seems to have been a fairly decent week. Certainly they hadnt felt threatened by their week long guest. In fact, everyone on both sides seemed to handle the situation pretty well. But Fundy Lady's family was obviously shocked and upset at her reaction to her experiences. Which once again makes me feel guilty for watching such a show. Still, given the opportunity I have to admit I'd probably tune in again.

The commercials sure got me to watch. Both parts.

All I could think of was that woman must be really insecure with her "faith" if she was freaking out like that on the Newagers.

Not to bust any bubbles, but these "reality" shows are sometimes farthest from reality. Some reality shows stage or script situations orincidents.
Heck even Ozzy and Sharone have admitted that some of the situations in thier show has been scripted. I would watch these shows with a very large grain of salt.

I remember when David Chappell made a joke about a reality show on swapping wives. I hope they're paying David chappell royalties.

For those of us who don't have the stomach for reality TV, could someone fill us in on what we we're talking about? They put a Christian in a Pagan household and she had a meltdown?

From the part 2 summary:

And in Louisiana, Margaret announces to a cab driver that she's never met before that she's happy to be back home, in God's country. Apparently God loves creating stifling heat and bizarre insects. When she arrives home, Margaret finally stops biting her tongue about her religion and goes absolutely insane in the name of the Lord. As she rants and raves, nearly speaking in tongues, her children look like the Disciples when they were visited by the Holy Spirit. Terrified and confused and hoping they don't end up dead.

Margaret tears up Jeanne's ungodly envelope, declaring it to be unclean. As only a true spiritual warrior could do, Margaret throws the pieces of paper out the front door. A dozen evil ghosts immediately rush out of the house and try to put the envelope back together. But they can't do it in time, and their ethereal presence simply dissolves.

You must have psychic powers!

I missed the second episode of the train wreck, I heard she had the real meltdown when she got home, she was upset that her family hadn't thrown out the other spouse.

hmmm, I saw some show where the hunter meat eaters traded a mom with a LAZY PETA lover raw foods mom. Have to say, the PETA lover mom had a husband that worked over 15 hours a day so he didn't have to come home to her...

But I coudln't stick with it. It seemed so silly. This PETA mom was so over the top. She was also terribly boring....

Back to watching some good tv, like Spounge Bob

Winning bid was $870. But this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5445109352) is still reasonably priced. Or maybe just get a t-shirt (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4795506895).

I didn't understand that term, "God Warrior". A Warrior For God, yes. One of God's Warriors, okay. But a God Warrior sounds like a warrior who is also a god. Something in a video game you'd either fight as a dungeon boss, or maybe a job category you'd level up into. "You have received 1500 EXP! You have advanced to God Warrior!" Skills would include Sonic Blast, Paper Tearing Skill, and Freaky Crying. But it's minus fifty compatibility points when you put the God Warrior into your party.
