View Full Version : "Jesus Would Be Ashamed Of You"

Yes, that's right. Jesus would be ashamed of you and how you run your life.

Why? Because you're so obsessed with the long list of things that offend you, that you don't have any time left to be a rational human being that cares about anything else, anything that counts-- like the well being of others

...

So why do you hang your hat on that? Of all the really important things that need fixing on Earth, why do you fixate on whether gays can marry, or waste your time saving a woman who really was, it turned out, completely brain-dead? Why do you spend so much time arguing about how God created the universe, when the exact details don't matter? You can pray in school any time you want-- why force it on others? The justice system generally holds the same values as the ten commandments... why do you need it actually spelled out?

Do you think your rabid devotion to insignificant minutia really makes Jesus happy? I think he's probably more interested in you spending that kind of time and energy on helping your fellow man, don't you?

Do you really think God suffers from the same frailties as human beings, and would condemn vast numbers of people to Hell over such tiny details? I think he's much bigger and greater than you give Him credit for. I think He's infinitely more loving than the vengeful monster you hope he is.

It's time to take back Christianity from such insanity. It's time to get back to being the loving children of God that we all have within us. Put down the pickets. Cancel the vigils. Put away the fiery rhetoric of hellfire and brimstone. Relax. Be a nice, caring person for a change. Calm down. God doesn't measure you against other people. He has love enough for everyone. You don't need to point angry fingers at people you think are unworthy hoping God notices!

I rather liked this. It's very reassuring.

As a Christian, I am often embarrased by the behaviour of other Christians.

And I can also understand many athiest seeing these Christians and thinking why on earth would I want to have anything to do with those people.

In our defence though, many Christians that I know spend time working with the homeless and people addicted to drungs and alcohol to get them fed, looked after and back on their feet.

I'm not saying that so you go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaww. I just agree with your statement about "spending that kind of time and energy on helping your fellow man, don't you?"

I'm too lazy to look up the citation (especially since I have't the foggiest idea how the original is phrased), but somebody intelligent (obviously) once said that the measure of a religion's truth is the degree to which it emphasizes worrying about your fellow's stomach and your own soul, not the reverse.

Whoever it was, they said it more eloquently than I.

Jesus: I said for you to give money to the poor, not for you to hire and arm men to force people to give money to the poor so you feel good about somebody, finally somebody, giving Kleenex to people with snot running down their nose and it's not quite so ugly to look at.

Oops! Sorry, nothing to see here. Move along, move along...

I wonder where this came from, someone who watches the news and thinks that is how everything in the world works? The vast majority of Christians don't do anything more in politics than vote, they don't do much arguing about how God created the universe, whether or not prayer in schools should be allowed, or whether you should pull the plug unless they're confronted about it in a class discussion or an online forum etc. where debate is encouraged. And if you say to me how come you dont start helping people instead of debating on online forum, maybe you should look at yourself and stop being a hypocrite. I spend about an hour of each day on this forum debating my side for educational purposes, something wrong with education?
And how do you know I don't help people in the first place? Besides that I can't go to africa and go feed people because once I got there I would hardly have enough money to take a plane trip back...cant help tsunami victims and hurricane victims....thats what my church does.

Dude... chill. If the shoe doesn't fit, then they're not talking about you.
