My wife went to a horticulture conference this week and was told about a product that sets off both of our BS detectors. Apparently, this grower she was speaking with has been using this device that produces "anolyte" solution, which he then injects into his water supply at about 2% concentrations. He claims that since he's been using this, his algae problems have decreased to almost nothing. The literature he showed her read almost verbatim like this.. from here... http://www.omniwiseinternational.com/index_files/Page568.htm

What is Anolyte
Anolyte is an activated solution produced by special machine using a process call Electro Chemical Activation (ECA). Anolyte is a very powerful disinfectant against all bacteria, viruses and algae even when it is diluted in water or sprayed in the air. Anolyte produced by Stel machines can either be acidic or neutral. Using Stel machine we can produce acidic or neutral anolyte depending on the current strength, consumption of salt solutions, velocities of stream of the electrochemically treated water and its distribution in anode and cathode chambers. Stel machines come with swoitches which can vary the type of anolyte and catholyte required.
Acidic Anolyte can be used wherever there is a need to disinfect or sterilise, in applications where the pH is unimportant and where there is no danger of corrosion. Acidic anolyte is a strong oxidizing solution with a pH range of 2.0 – 4.0 and an Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) of +600 to +1200mV with active chlorine content of about ~500-700 mg/l. The most common application of Anolyte is as a biocidal agent.
Neutral Anolyte Neutral anolyte have a pH of between ~7.5-8.5 and have a content of active chlorine ~500-700mg/l and ORP of between ~~700-900 mV. It is used wherever pH is important (corrosion) and where possible evaporation of active chlorine cannot be avoided. Neutral Anolyte is very effective against bacteria and viruses and is mostly used to disinfect swimming pools, drinking water or other water sources. Besides Neutral Anolyte is widely used to disinfect / sterilise objects (floors, wall, tools, foodstuff, etc.).
What is Catholyte?.
Catholyte is a bi-product that is also produced by the Stel machines. Catholyte have an ORP of ~800-900mV. Catholyte is alkaline has a pH between 10 and 13 and unlike anolyte solutions. It do not have sterilising properties but can be used for flocculation (e.g. of heavy metals), coagulation, washing, extraction. Furthermore this solution can be used to wash wounds (instead of using iodine) and wherever there is a need to increase pH level of the water to be treated.
Benefits of Using Anolyte
* It is highly sporocidal (unlike most decontaminants)
* Kills microorganisms in extremely short contact time
* At applied concentrations does not bleach surfaces.
* Solutions applied in various form - liquid, ice or fog
* It residual by-products also are nontoxic
* It reverts over time into a weak saline solution
* No synthetic chemical residue
* On-site generated solution
* Low mineralization (0.5 – 5.0 g/l) of the aqua solutions used in the ECA process
* Unipolarity of the electrochemical treatment in time and/or space
* Shortened activation process (0.3 – 10.0 seconds)
* Low energy consumption (0.05 – 5.0 Wxh/l)
* Precise ability to control the physical-chemical properties of generated solution
* to exclude from routine technological processes the regulation of solution properties with costly
reagents;
* Improve quality of the treated substances;
* Reduce the number and duration of technological operations;
* To decrease their labour-consuming nature;
* Facilitate and simplify processes of water and sewage purification.
* Economical efficiency.

So, the claim is that this will kill bacteria, viruses, and algae, but is safe enough that they use it in a fog form in hog farms to disinfect them. Sounds fishy to me, but I don't have the background to really examine this... any ideas?

I don't know that the "anolyte" in this link is the same stuff, but I did note the Russian aspect. This site is obviously woo on the same level as Penta water)
