In this picture of Charlton Heston at his farewell appearance as President of the NRA, visible in the foreground is one of the plexiglas panels used to protect the speaker from being shot.

Silly me, I've always thought those were bulletproof plates. Dunno why. So shoot me. :P

Even if they were bulletproof, they wouldn't be much protection. (Ok, they may protect their heads, but the rest of their body would be wide open.)

You got it all wrong, its a sneezegaurd to protect the midget who calls out his lines when he gets stuck.
