My local theatre here in the south-east of the UK is about to become "satan's stronghold" apparently, according to my local paper. Why, you ask? Because it's due to stage Jerry Springer the Opera.

Stephen Green, of pressure group Christian Voice, warned:
"Have no doubt - the Cliffs [local theatre] is in Satan's stronghold until it cancels the show. God can bring judgment on this town if it blasphemes his holy name. I believe God is willing and able to stop Jerry Springer the Opera being shown..."

An equally deluded guy who runs a local Christian bookshop says his group will spend as much as £50,000 on a legal battle to try and stop the show. He says:
"Not one Christian in this town wants this show to go on. Anything which insults God, insults us."

This is the 21st century, right???

Hmm...

The "Riddle of Epicurus" really needs updating.

If He willing but not able, wherefore call Him God?
If he is both able and willing, whence cometh Jerry Springer the Opera?

Darnit, I thought it was going to be one of those "Hell House" things I went to on Halloween. It is so hard not to laugh inappropriately when the abortion doctors are tormented for killing babies, or when the guy who looks kind of like Chuck Norris in a white toga says he's Jesus.

What's funny is that, as far as I know, the part of the opera with the biblical figures is supposed to be Springer's fever dream after he got shot, so any "blasphemy" in it is mainly a joke on Springer's skewed take on things.

Oh, so yours is imaginary, then ? Good. I win.

Oh, probably someday we'll discover that the local minister takes a cut of the profits from the theater company for getting things all frothed up. Now that's cynical.

I must say - we have some nice looking minor demons, devils, minions here tonight. Angels of light to the left please. Looks to be a good show, welcome all.
