It seems that they wanted to use non-Whites (the study was done in Africa) because they felt that the different races were actually different species of humans and (you can see this coming, I'm sure) the Blacks were closer to the apes than the Whites were.

By the way, no human females were recruited for this. The human volunteers were all male. The chimps were the females.

Actually, there were TWO attempts... one (that had slipped my mind) was with a Russian woman known only as "G" but the other involved human males.
