I moved to another part of the states. It took two months to get in with my new doctor. She's quite happy to do it for me, Dr. Ross. So times coming soon. I'll beat this challege no problem. Maybe even find the cure for H5n1? I bet some of you would like that.

Hello again, Ryan.
It is good to hear from you. It's even better to know that you continue to seek the professional medical and psychological help you need. Bravo. Good for you.
As for the Million Dollar Challenge, I have some bad news. You are no longer eligible to apply for the prize money. Randi recently announced that changes will be made to the Challenge Rules. As of April 1st, only those who have a "media profile" and are able to provide an "endorsement of an academic nature" will be considered as applicants. You meet neither of these conditions, Ryan.
Goodbye and good luck.

I think you will be welcome to post about what you are doing in this thread. Or start a new thread in Community (http://forums.randi.org/forumdisplay.php?f=26) where you do not even have to pretend you have any powers.
If you do decide you have powers and that you are sane then you can always find some other prizes to go for and win. Get a media presence. Then you can go for this one.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do in the future.

Wow, I haven't seen that about the new applicant criteria! Could you link the announcement, or tell me where to find it? Just when I was having SO MUCH fun reading all of the challenge applications...
No one with a "media presence" is ever going to apply for the prize, right? Fakes like Edwards, Geller, etc. are already making money; they've never had the collective balls to risk their jobs as confidence artists by trying to pick up an easy $1,000,000...

(added after reading) Hmmm. Have some thoughts on that, but this isn't the thread for them. Is there a thread open to discuss the changes (as I take off to look for one)...
PS Ryan, please get some help, chief. I read your applicant profile. You are clearly a decent person, but you are clearly mentally ill, and should really address that. The challenge will still be here after you get professional help, even if you need to get a "media presence" first!

Dear Dumb all Over. I almost done with the affidavits process and the third is being witnessed by a Dr. in Psyics. Tell you what, send me your e-mail address, I will give you one of the Dr's names and phone#.
You may call her and say your representing the JREF forum and want to know if Ryan really has the powers he claims.
You may then write down your response from the Dr. to the forum on what she told you. How does that sound? Will that help you.
When I applied, there were no requirements such as the new ones on the deal. Is this new rule for new app's and old app's?
If I need media coverage, why not? I already have that planned out as I write this.

Yes, that is how I was thinking about it as forum representation. I'll check my e-mail now and give Dumb all Over the needed info. For anyone's future info, I have suffered some mental illness in the past due to too much life trauma with a mix of paranormal activity at the same time.
I became a broken machine and I'm getting well again. My next appointment with my doctor and her partner M.D. will be May 15th. My doctor is bringing in a Dr. in Psyics to watch the demonstration and help with the affidavits. I've had some problems in the past and things are going better with the help of some professionals who's affidavits would be well worthy. Now, to check my e-mail and go back home to the Bat Cave.

If this doctor is a MD and Ryan his/her patient, it is very unlikely that the doctor will give you any information at all.
Is Dr. in “Psyics” supposed to be “Physics”? I’m not being anal; I just want to make sure this isn’t some new term (potentially woo term) that I’m not familiar with.

This is a very real possibility and the most major of the "technicalities" I speak of. Ryan is now aware of this hurdle and knows it is a concern of mine. I've asked him to consider this and to take steps that would allow for communication with his doctor.
The information Ryan sent states this doctor is an M.D.

I spoke to my doctor for Dumb All Over's paperwork which needed to be faxed back and it should be there by now. All sounds fun.

It sure does sound good. You will of course understand that only an official response from the JREF will be convincing. This includes a statement on the processing of your application.
Would you permit Dumb All Over to post the affidavit - or a transcript - in this thread? Or would you even consider doing it yourself, batman?

Gzuz,
My correspondence with Ryan and his doctor doesn't have much to do with affidavits. Ryan asked me to contact his doctor by phone and report on that conversation. I didn't feel comfortable doing this without Ryan's express written permission. In fact, HIPA laws will restrict the doctor from speaking to me without a proper release.
Several weeks ago I faxed the doctor a release form and cover letter. She did receive these.
As yet, I have not received the signed document (I just checked the fax machine). I hope what Ryan says above is true and that I will soon have his signed release in hand.

I don't know if It would be legal to post the affidavit. Giving out the MD's information to people could cause a lot of harrassment to the doctor. Asking James Randi or Jeff Waff if they have recieved #1 or 2 would be best. #2 is an assiciate of #1, so I'll find out if #2 has completed it and sent it yet. The last appt. with #1 I asked "did #2 complete the affidavit for me?". She said, #2 wasn't sure you would want her to. I said, "Yes I want here to please". Ahh! It takes a lot of polite persistence I tell you to get some people to budge. Thanks for letting me know DOM. I'll call her and leave a message ASAP.

Hello folks,
I have some very interesting news. Yesterday I received a fax from the office of Ryan's doctor. It is a copy of a letter addressed to the JREF and dated October 20th. The body of the letter reads as follows--
To the James Randi Educational Foundation members:
I wish to inform you that, on 05/14/07, I have had the pleasure of witnessing Mr. Whisler's paranormal experiment, which was to show how he has communicated with a ball to have it move, while suspended from a string, in the direction Mr. Whisler willed it to go. I will verify that he was able to telekinetically will the ball to move in a chosen direction 50% of the time. He replaced his yo-yo with a ball(tennis).
Please let me know if you need any other information.
The letter is signed by the doctor and is notarized. I'm at work and will comment further when I get home this evening.

Unfortunately, I suspect none of this really matters. Assuming she really is a qualified doctor, she is qualified to give an affidavit. The JREF never specified it have to be from a competent, woo-free doctor, indeed, it would be impossible to do so and still be taken seriously. It's actually one thing that's always surprised me though. Given the number of professionals with any number of woo beliefs, how come applicants have always found it so hard to actually get one to witness their abilities?

Be interesting to see JREF's reaction if they ever get it. Can do ability at chance level. Do they then reject the application or do they say 1 down 2 to go? Looks like he had his pre preliminary test and failed.
The doctor would not be 100% woo. He gave an accurate letter.

Unfortunately, much of the JREF staff is on holiday and I probably won't have a definitive answer for some time. However, I can say that if the affidavit was faxed after the April 1st rule change, Mr. Whisler will have to get the media presence just like everyone else who applied after that date. Also, after a year without contact, Challenge applications are closed. This means that his file has been closed at the JREF and is not in my possession. If we are re-opening the file, I'm going to need e-mail contact before requesting that the file is forwarded to me. Once the file is forwarded, I can see where we stand.
