Does the US always have to make these icky alliances only to have them turn around and bite us in the ass? It's bad enough to make such absolute statements about never dealing with terrorists, etc only to find that terrorists (and equally unsavory characters) can sometimes do their dirty deeds to our benefit.
I understand the pragmatism of at least looking the other way in some situations. But this sort of thing also encouraged the likes of Hussein and Bin Laden. Not to mention blurring the moral high ground we like to invoke.
