what I know;
evolution happened and it's not a case of belief
evolution is both compatible and incompatible with christianity and some other religions
BUT
because the creation story is nonsense, should the entire bible be taken seriously

I think it probably depends a little on what, exactly, you think the bible is. IMHO it's a carefully selected bunch of writings from a few guys who lived thousands of years ago who's knowledge of the world was very limited and, like everyone else, their life was ruled by superstition. They were trying to understand the world and also trying to lay down a few rules for people to live by to make society a slightly better place to live in. You have to read in context with the times.
Is it the word of any god(s)? No, I don't believe so.
A collection of parables and such and most of which should not be taken literally.

The bible should be taken as seriously as any other work of fiction in a book store.
As science, it's crap.
As history, it's mostly crap.
As literature, some of it isn't crap, most of it is.
As a fictional story, it's long, boring, full of inconsistencies and factual errors, all combined within an inconceivable plot.
As a moral guide, it is far too filled with divinely inspired hate, murder and rape to be of any use.
Harry Potter is much better.

Is the mind just a metaphore?
Much as I hate to be a spelling nazi I'm feeling a little irritable this morning so I'm going to point out that metaphor has only one E in it.
You might find this (http://www.onelook.com/) site handy.

Is the mind just a metaphore? Are you some idea of a joke in the form of a forum bot some forum member thought up (try saying that five times fast!)? I say this on good suspicion, as you don't ever appear to acknowledge the context of what you respond to.

Maybe he meant metapore, which is a rarely used term for apetura mediana ventriculi quarti, which is the large midline opening in the posterior inferior part of the roof of the fourth ventricle, connecting the ventricle with the cerebellomedullary cistern.

The bible is mostly crap but you can that about nearly all the writings of every great philosopher and scientist. Newton laws of motion are genius but he was an extremely religious man and spent 30 years experimenting with alchemy. So should we ignore the laws of motion because they came from a source that also put out a lot of questionable material? No, you gotta dig through and get the good stuff and ignore the rest.

I'm absolutely certain that is what he meant.

Bear in mind that when Newton lived, there were few rulers to measure the validity of one thing or another - alchemy would have definitely fallen under this ambiguity.
