How do they know it's the same particle?
Did it have a barcode?

I'm not sure if I have this right, but I thought photons are known to appear and disappear anyhow. How does one know that it is the same photon as Soapy Sam said? How would they know that it didn't appear anywhere in between?

That is a meaningless question. Two particles in the same quantum state are indistinguishable.

Indeed. When the particles are the same for any definition of "sameness" that can be used, then what's the point of not saying it's the same particle?
