Over the past couple of weeks, I have heard prominent radio talk show hosts and other commentators musing about how the anti-war types must be "furious" that the war in Iraq was so successful and fast, and minimized civilian casualties. We all apparently also all hate the fact that the Iraqi people have a chance to escape their repression and form a free society.

Apparently we're all hypocrites that love a good atrocity as long as we can blame it on Republicans.

What do you think is the intent of all this commentary? For fairness' sake let's include analogous stunts played by the left against the right (examples welcome)... do those saying it really believe it? Or do they know they're full of s**t and are phonies angling for ratings and controversy? Or something else?

I think that the people who are against the war are far too varied to even say that there is a consensus on anything.

It's part of the "big lie" technique. Vilify your opponents. All the time. Constantly. Without respite.

I am sure many that are glad it did not turn out how they expected. But there were certainly some people, I don't know how many but I would HOPE only a few, who went beyond expecting heavy US losses to saying the wanted such losses to occur. These people I am sure are upset that the war went so smoothly. And both sides have a history of identifying all their opponents with the most extreme factions.

It's bullsh**. Nobody expected that we wouldn't throw a very quick and victorious war. Seriously, I was aginst the whole thing, but I also knew as soon as W got elected, we'd be going into Iraq, and so did much of the world. No-one I know was predicting Iraqi victory.
