For entertainment purposes only I will visit misc.health.alternative about once a day. There is a plethora of woo there... though many are just irritants.

Once in a while there will be a real doozy. Someone so dumb that they think that they are smart. In the topic titled "a question about a scientific approach to eastern & alternative medicine" there is a great deal of amusement from a person known as "vernon"

1) He tells Peter Bowditch that Peter does not know anything about homeopathy (http://groups.google.com/group/misc.health.alternative/msg/92893f0aeace9375?hl=en&)

2) For some reason I post a response to "vernon" (which for some reason did not get noticed by groups.google so here it is in its entirety
"vernon" <here@here.com (here@here.com)> wrote in message

It seems obvious you actually know very little about homeopathy:
http://www.hans-egebo.dk/skeptic/Homeopathy%20article.htm (http://www.hans-egebo.dk/skeptic/Homeopathy article.htm)

One thing, it is not "Eastern" medicine since Germany is not exactly
considered an "Eastern" country.

Plus one of its claims to fame is the concept of "miasms". One of those
miasms is "syphilis".

Now think about this very hard... Should you ever contract the bacteria that causes syphilis (which is on an upswing) would you want to receive
homeopathic treatment or antibiotics?

To which I got a silly response (from an old-time m.h.a. member who I know was just being silly):
David Wright responds to me (http://groups.google.com/group/misc.health.alternative/msg/735b77fe9c5d6143?hl=en&)

3) Which fosters this exchange... I respond and "vernon" gets weird (http://groups.google.com/group/misc.health.alternative/browse_frm/thread/f63b3f64078d7fa4/92893f0aeace9375?hl=en#92893f0aeace9375)... if you follow the exchange he even gets weirder with "Rich"

4) On a seperate branch I attempt to get "vernon" to explain the history of homeopathy (http://groups.google.com/group/misc.health.alternative/msg/649b109997f3395a?hl=en&) ... and he responds with advoidance and a total diversion (http://groups.google.com/group/misc.health.alternative/msg/69f8faf9e08df251?hl=en&)... note how he snips all the links that counter his view of "reality".

I would like to thank all of you on JREF for giving me the insight into the homeopathic/alt med woos. This is very entertaining... I'm almost sorry I cannot devote more time to this. (speaking entertainments, does Rolfe know about J'kar being dead (http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2006/02/gkar_is_dead.php)?). By the way in my last message to "vernon" I told him we are not laughing with him, but at him.

The moment they start waffling, they know their point is lost. From there, it's just face-saving after realising their own dreadful mistake.

Did you invite Vernon over here? He sounds like a lot of fun.

Maybe I'll do that the next time I visit m.h.a ... he is very amusing.

Actually, I did interact with Kumar recently. He is still baffling people. I'm sorry, but I felt bad for Bob: Can Size/Charge of atoms effect? (http://groups.google.com/group/sci.med.pathology/browse_frm/thread/52731656e8317189?)

Aaah! Kumar! Still working the "mass existing" line for all his worth (which is nothing).

Read the link Hydrogen Cyanide.

Hmm, that news is a bit of a bummer for my day.

(speaking entertainments, does Rolfe know about J'kar being dead (http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2006/02/gkar_is_dead.php)?).No! That's dreadful! I didn't even know Andreas was ill!

I thought from the post that you meant G'Kar was dead, and I'm just thinking, well, we knew he was dead at the time of Sleeping in Light I think, so it's not major news. I only realised when I clicked on the link that it was Andreas Katsulas who had died.

That's three of the cast gone now. Richard Biggs (Stephen Franklin) collapsed and died very suddenly of an aneurism when only in his mid-40s, Tim Choate (Zathras) was killed shortly afterwards in a motorcycle accident at about the same age, and now this. :(

Still, does that mean that my autograph collection is getting more valuable? :)

Rolfe.

Ooops... my bad. I didn't realize that I had started the thread shift. I was associating "katsuras" with homeopathy and the loony toon "vernon".

Oh, and Rolfe... you should check out Orac's trubute from today:
http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2006/02/great_gkar_quotes.php

And the thread shift continues... :cs:

Should we start a "woo of the month" thread?

What you think? We have a candidate here, and I can cough up a couple of audio 'evil woo of the month' candidates, too.
