I just wondered if there was a stomach bug going round at the moment?
It is just that all day Friday, my wife was feeling under the weather. She came home on Friday evening feeling exhausted. She was very cold and shivery, so went to bed early. She woke at about 11 pm, feeling very shivery, so had to come back to bed in a dressing gown. She then took her temp which was 39c. The fever finally broke at around 5 am after a very restless night. She then woke again at 6 am with severe gripping pains in her stomach and had to rush to the toilet.
She has been like this all weekend. She has lost her appetite and at present, when she has tried to eat it has all gone straight through her. She is drinking plenty of water though.
She is still feeling unwell today and her stomach is still very sore. I am not sure whether to get her to go and see the doctor or not. What does anyone think?

Are you in GB?
If so, 50-50 to go to the Docs or not as they'll almost certainly tell her she'll get better on her own and there's little they can do except recommend paracetomol. They seem to say that for almost everything these days.

Ok, thanks. Yes, we are in the UK.
I suppose I was trying to work out if she had food poisoning or a stomach bug. She does not really like taking Paracetamol, but she has been lying in bed with a hot bottle on her belly and she is finding this helpful, although she says that her whole belly feels inflammed and she has pain and tenderness all around and over her belly button.
Thanks anyway.

If she is over 50 (years old) or under 12 :) I would take her to the doctor. I am not sure what the pain around the belly button means and that would alarm me a bit.

There is a 'tummy flu' going round at the moment, several schools near to me (Birmingham) have closed because of it. It's like regular flu symptoms plus a dodgy stomach.

Sounds like what my neice has. She started feeling ill and sleepy at the start i
of last week, progressed to a sore tummy by wednesday, throwing up, high fever, not wanting to eat etc. Today she's much better... could the start of half term have something to do with it?!?!!? Seriously she has been ill, and she's not usually like that. She's lost loads of weight as well, was quite shocked when I saw her. The doc's said the usual, take Calpol (she's five) and plenty of fluids.
Hope your wife's feeling better soon, Physiotherapist.

Most of my family seem to have caught this recently, myself included.
Those that managed to get a doctors appointment before the symtpoms passed were told that it was most likely gastroenteritis caused by a virus of some sort and that it will pass in a few days, which it did.
I hope your wife recovers soon.

Thanks everyone. My wife is feeling a little better today, but is still not right. Unfortunately, both my kids have it now and have been up for most of the night with tummy ache and diarrhoea.
