Whilst out at Asda (Walmart to the Amerkins) today I noticed a large billboard advert there was for Michael Reid, quite obviously an evangelical preacher. I can't say I was best pleased about having such material rammed down my throat whilst nipping out for a loaf.
Anyway, it got me wondering what lay behind this as there is clearly going to be an unlterior motive, most likely a financial one too. It just seemed odd that it was being targetted here, now, in the UK. It seems this guy has beamed under my radar for some years...
So, I had a look at his website (www.sunday10am.peniel.org) and it look innocent enough at first glance, lots of prattling and preaching, a bookshop in there but nothing major to give it away.
On slightly closer inspection I came across his academy (http://www.penielacademy.ac/) and his college (http://www.pche.ac.uk/live/home.php) too.
Am I being overly cynical in thinking that perhaps this man is a money grabbing conman in the mould of the "great" Jim Bakker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Bakker)? It occured to me that running "education establishments" is a clever twist to avoid legality issues such as those faced by Bakker, don't you think?
Ooh - just as I was about to post, I stumbled across this too...
