Hi there.
I have written a transcript of a sitting with "psychic" Terry Evans and a Carina P.
This is from a swedish television show called "Det Okända" (The Unknown)
Terry is english so the whole sitting is in english.
I wrote this to support my arguments in an argument about cold readers in television.
Here is an HTML and a .pdf - version - Enjoy.

I love this bit:
"I don’t know why he is talking about Thursday .... do you understand why he would be talking about Thursday? ... Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday ... I don’t know what it means around his death but those four days where very significant..."
Amazing accuracy!
The sad thing is that the sitter probably did benefit from the session - since he/she clearly needs closure. Pity that they didnt go to a grief counsellor instead where they could have got the same but without the woowoo.

Can you give us some background on "the recent turmoil and threats against sceptics here in Sweden"?

Can you give us some background on "the recent turmoil and threats against sceptics here in Sweden"?
There is a magazine editor running around the discussion boards, threatening those who "claim" that mediums are a fraud, with charges of slander, harrasment and such.
There is also this very common idea among the "believers" (or what one might call them) that being incognito on the internet make you less reliable in discussing these things.
And lastly there has also been the regular. "I´m gonna shoot you in the back of the head with my shotgun" - type of threats.
And even though I don´t feel that my health is threatened. I wouldn´t want my sleep disturbed by lunatics calling me in the middle of the night.

o29, do you know how "cold" this reading was? The only meaningful information Evans volunteered was that her father was an alcoholic who committed suicide and that he wore glasses. Many people must have known this, and the glasses could be seen in a photograph. Could Carina P. have told this to Evans off-camera, or did the TV producers isolate them?

T: "...and he tells me that there was something funny with his teeth or there was a tooth missing"
You mean he didn't know which of these he had?
T: "...but I have had problems listening to your father especially if he speak in Swedish because he spoke so quickly sometimes.. "
Ahh, that explains it.....
T: "...and so what he wants to say to you really clearly is that you wanted to know: Why I took my own life.. everything...just became ... too much"
No, really?? Could there have been any other logical reason for a suicide...?
His stock response when his readings score a miss:
T: "...check it with Mama"
T: ".. possibly been aah something medic.. a medical condition with you?"
Brilliant intuition, this one.
T: ".. and currently this medical condition is .."
wait for it.....
T: "....Y-you don’t know what’s gonna happen with it, which way it is going to go"
How anticlimactic!
etc etc blah, blah

No. People don't get closure from getting a cold-reading from a psychic. People get hooked on psychic readings.
Psychics are nothing but grief-sucking vampires. Psychics keep people in a perpetual state of grief, so the psychics can get as much money from them as possible, by giving them phony readings, pretending to pass on messages from their dead relatives.

No there really isnt anyway to know that. The producers of the show claims to leave no information what so ever to the mediums. I think thats bollocks though.
And also Carina state, firmly, that she didnt tell Terry anything in advance - this I belive.
Actually the line with the glasses isn´t thought of as a "hit" by the belivers. It is mostly thought that he is talking about the alcoholism.
Keep in mind though, that the average swede´s relation to alcohol is somewhat complicated and culturally stigmatized. Almost everyone would score a "hit" by claiming that the dead persons had an issue with alcohol.

My favorite part is where he fishes for a hit on the name "Ronny". When it fails to connect, he switches to, "Oh, there's a spirit named Ronny with your dad in the spirit world..." Nice save, asshat!

That's a classic ploy: Throw something out (Ronny is a fairly common name in Sweden), and when there is no response, it's just a spirit who happens to be with the person.

That would be Sassersson, no? Have lurked some on VoF's fora and had the "pleasure" of a hit-and-run posting by Sassersson at Humanisternas fora.
There is also this very common idea among the "believers" (or what one might call them) that being incognito on the internet make you less reliable in discussing these things
That one seems highly in use. "I won't listen to you, you're using a handle!" as if that was a valid argument. The most fascinating was the Ireland-is-Atlantis dude who in one sentence was complaining about ad-hominems, and the next dismisses arguemtns due to the poster using an alias.
And lastly there has also been the regular. "I´m gonna shoot you in the back of the head with my shotgun" - type of threats.
Seriously? That's disturbing.

029, thank you very much for taking the time and making the effort to write the transcript and posting a link to it here. There are so very few transcripts available online. This is a valuable resource.
Once again, thanks.

Agreed. Being able to read this at my own pace makes it that much easier to see how slimey these people really are. Makes me ill.
