Have you seen the episode of Trading Spouses with the crazy Christian woman?

If not, you should check this out: youtube.com/watch?v=Q8UPXGun5zI

It's the last few minutes of the show (where it gets good).

I found it totally hilarious.

Sorry, I couldn't make a link to it (I have not posted 15 times yet). I have been a lurker here for quite a while. This is the first time I've had something I wanted to share.

I couldn't get the video to download, but if it's the chubby lady that threatened to tear up the check for being on the show - she's a hoot, isn't she?

I don't normally catch this program, but have seen Joel McHale (from "The Soup") talk about it and the crazy Christian lady. I love the whole premise of "Trading Spouses," but I don't think it really works unless the husbands actually get to have sex with his "new" spouse.

Can you imagine the fireworks that would have started with THIS woman?

BTW, Welcome to the forums - all of you. :)

Apparently, you haven't seen the episode of the Soup where Joel explains that this lady is going to be making other television appearances.

You should head over to your local psychriatric care unit, cancer ward, or social services office. You'll bust a gut laughing at other's misfortunes and illnesses.

She was obviously pushed outside her comfort zone too far, too fast. Given the insular smugness of her little circle-jerk friends, it's hardly surprising she was ill equipped to deal with radically different mindset.

If my kids were ever as rude to a guest in our home half as much as the hippie family's kids were to her, they'd get a boot to the head.

The saddest thing about her is that one gets the impression she's not into religion for itself as she's doing it to cover up the fact that she's insecure. She definitely has a personality disorder and the way she threw a fit on national TV just shows she likes attention, she likes being at the center of attention, but only if it's on her terms.

While I would love to link any sort of religion to this utterly pathetic person to further my own bias, the truth is that she's just a demon who can't be happy with herself so she makes everybody else miserable. The reason she accepted the check after her little hissy fit is because she thinks stomach stapling is going to help her out and make her more comfortable to be with herself. Alas, the sad truth is that she's going to actually do some rough self-examination in order to achieve that and at her stage in life it's probably easier to be the bible-beating toad that she is. You can tell by the look in her family's eyes when she was going to town, triumphant as a pig back in its own muck, that they just cannot stand her. And she's blind to it because that's how she manages to get through the day. And now she's marketing it in order to keep the delusion up and it's going to fail. She's going to die a very lonely and fat individual because with the amount of anger and bile she spouted, she's probably supresses it with either food, alcohol, or just plain abuse. Ironically, the next big media blitz for her would probably be one of those Jerry Springer episodes titled "I haven't left the house in five years," involves a wall being cut down, and a stop at the semi-weighing stop.

Does this mean we shouldn't make fun of her? Not really, she's abusive as hell, and she probably deserves it. She needs to seek help but if she's driving everybody away, no sense in tiptoeing around her. She's obviously an odious person, and she deserves all the mockery she's gotten on the internet. All it does is frame the position she has put herself in.

I'm cynical and realistic enough to believe the entire thing has been contrived. Ah, well, if she can milk a few bucks out of the rubes, more power to her.

If it's real...that is just so pathetic. It boggles the mind that there are people out there that have such tiny lives that they have to create such a sad website out of them.

Here's my take: she got $50,000 out of it. The whole point of the show is to stress the hell out of people so that they'll make fools of themselves, and she knew that, and she delivered. Reality TV is pretty damned unethical, but no one forces these people into doing this stuff.

From the other thread (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=47350) ...

Winning bid was $870. But this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5445109352) is still reasonably priced. Or maybe just get a t-shirt (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4795506895).

She's obviously an odious person, and she deserves all the mockery she's gotten on the internet. All it does is frame the position she has put herself in.She has put herself in a position to become a celebrity and cash in on it. If my kids were ever as rude to a guest in our home half as much as the hippie family's kids were to her, they'd get a boot to the head. Who wants to watch well adjusted people behaving in a reasonable manner? What's entertaining about that? That's what BBS is for, not network TV. We want car crashes, train wrecks, and people having personal meltdowns. Makes us feel better about ourselves and the sponsors know that's what we'll watch.

I never could understand people reacting to TV as though it was the real deal. It is entertainment used to sell you soap and beer. Nothing more.

Good point, but until patients in any of those places are well enough to sign up for a reality TV show while remaining delusional enough about religion to provide entertainment, I think I'll just laugh at the fat lady.

I haven't seen the entire show (having caught her tirade on The Soup), I can't comment on how she was treated by the other family, but the way she treated her own family (on the clip) makes her a perfect target for ridicule.

I'm all for giving respect and empathy to the mentally ill, but when the lines between reality and a neurological disorder are blurred by fundamentalism why should I feel guilty for laughing?

Isn't one of the reasons we're all here is that it's not okay to milk a few bucks out of the rubes, though?

No, she wasn't forced to go on the show (because she can't put down the fork, it seems...is there a thread dedicated to this gastric bypass nonsense yet?) and she made an ass out of herself. Yeah, she may be sick, but I didn't see the producers prodding her to go on a stupid tirade of faux morality.

I say mock her until we learn she has a certified mental problem. And maybe even after, she seems the type to milk the victim role until it's hollow.
