"Government lawyers trying to keep the Norfolk farmer Tony Martin behind bars will tell a High Court judge tomorrow that burglars are members of the public who must be protected from violent householders."

In the U.K. everything is an illusion.

The U.K. is now one of the most idiotic goverments in history. Quakery, insanity. Its better to be beaten, robbed, raped, and stabbed than to defend yourself from violence.
I would put a big fat boot in Parliments ass. But you Brits have passively, in fact willingly allowed the goverment to strip you of one of the most fundamental freedoms, and human rights, that of self defense.
I heard of an old lady that strung razor wire on top of a wall surrounding her home [in U.K.] to deter crime, but the police made her take it down because "a robber might get hurt". Its so stupid, there is no way I could make it up, and this article shines some light on the lunatics in the U.K. goverment.
A word of advice to you brits that still have guns, make sure your assailant is dead, that way he can't sue you.

I thought that there were similar cases in the US where you had permission to kill in your house only in self defense. I am libertarian enough that I don't buy that arguement.
Don't have a mean dog , he might bite the burglar.

I am not a lawyer but I understand that in Massachusetts if you are awakened in the middle of the night and spot someone in your house who you do not know and perceive this as a threat you can shoot to kill. [But I could be wrong...]
