Boy did they waste an awful lot of time and money studying and debating this crock.
Even this is just more publicity for the movie.

I remember the first time I saw that I was thinking, "hmm, they took some foam, soaked it in some dark liquid, covered it with a clear 'skin' and then they cut into it and the 'blood' drips out, clever." BUT then they interviewed some special effects "expert" who claimed there was no known way that could be faked and if it was a fake then he wanted the man who did it on his team. I couldn't believe they could even find an "expert" to say something so silly.
So, I wonder if the offer still stands?

I recall that several special effects companies demostrated that they could pull that off quite easily. I don't remember any offer, however.
I do recall that there were a lot of stupid people who though that way. (http://groups.google.com/group/sci.skeptic/msg/94e3a944a8c95b8a?dmode=source)

I was amazed to find that this (http://www.trudang.com/autopsy.html) was still up and running after all these years.

What really threw them off all this time was a few seconds of footage at the end that was never shown to the public, nor included in copies.
Someone held up a card that said:
It's true. :)

You mean there are actually people who believe that the film was real?

Which alien autospy are we talking about? If it's the FOX one from years ago, the special effects guy was quoted out of context.

lol I didn't have to look at your post count there to realise that you haven't been around here long ;)
I'm still betting on there being quite a few people who'll still believe it's real even after Santilli has come out and confessed the hoax.

these are exactly the kinds of things that make me NOT like to argue with fruitcakes...i am pretty sure that shortly after that came out some of the people admitted it was a hoax and i think they even ran a followup "making of" special but people still believed it weas real...anyway, my point is, when you have a desire to believe something that much, it is just frustrating for me to try to argue logic with them. i remember seeing the original special and thinking "that is ridiculous, it looks like a low budget movie"

I was overwhelmed by the amount of media coverage this got. An overwhelming amount of nothing.
What's the bet this vital bit of news just sort of sinks into obscurity and the General Public (tm) will continue believing that it's true?

The two blokes behind the fake are now saying (I think) "Yes that was a fake but it was actually a "reconstruction" after the original real version accidentally got destroyed."

Ah yes - it's bound to all come back to light now as our 'beloved' Ant and Dec have made a good old British Comedy about it. Actually, it does look mildly amusing... Ant MacPartlin and Declan Donelley have kind of grown up on UK tv screens and this is their first foray into the movies...
Of course, some people will still claim it is true, even when the film shows how it was done! Once such things are out there in the public imagination, some people cling to them tenaciously.

Well I just watched the Ant and Dec movie.
It was quite amusing but as Darat said, they are taking the cop out approach of "Well we did have real footage, but it accidentally got destroyed so we had to make a reconstruction", which of course is classic post hoc rationalization. It's a bit sad because it represents a chance to advance skepticism wasted. :(

This is exactly what happened with the "Minnesota Iceman", a sideshow gaff from the 1960's that continues to impress the credulous.

Just look at the history of mockumentaries... or things like the original "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast.
People are stupid. ;) This is verified, because when you show why they are stupid, and how they can become intelligent, they decide to keep on with the stupid.

The first time I saw the "uncut" footage, I noticed the letters "V I D E O" on one of the "metal bars" during the artifacts part. So much for being seeky about faking it, they were unbashful fakers. Fox did not air that portion on network TV, but it was included on the home video version.

Yes, but he's only doing that, as a result of being pressurized by the Dracos?;)
