I just had to share this with you; a message, directed to all those evil scientists, from a homeopath on this forum:

Enjoy...

"according to The British Medical Journal, the whole Bird Flu scare is a hoax. The person benefitting from it is Donald Rumsfeld, who seems to have a hefty financial interest in the manufacture of "Tamiflu". Rumsfeld is the former president of Roche Laboratories.

I don't know why you were challenging me to inject bird flu into my veins. Why? We don't inject poisons. That's what the medical establishment is proud of doing, we don't do that. And speaking of trials, there's never been a single double-blind trial showing that vaccines are safe and effective.

By the way, our main flu remedy, Oscillococcinum, is made from a bird, so, I think we're ready for the bird flu if it should ever take flight.

You people just amaze me, you can't cure a single chronic disease; yet, here you are, strutting around like roosters, crowing about your scientific superiority. Where has it taken you? How far have you come? What do you have to show for yourselves?

We run rings around you! Just look at autistic spectrum disorder; you've got nothing in the way of treatment! We've got complete cures! Read Amy Lansky's book (Impossible Cure). Read Dr. Robert Ullman's book. Go tell the parents of these kids that they didn't really get well, it's all placebo, tell them it's all their imagination!

We laugh at you!

Does it make sense to tell somebody who uses a tool successfully that the tool doesn't work?

Would it make sense for me to tell a laser surgeon that the laser doesn't work (because it doesn't make any sense to me and defies my understanding)? Oh I know, you would just say, "But we can prove that laser surgery works!" Not to a zealot you can't! And that's what you people are, you belong to some cult that's on a crusade. You're ideologues.

You know what my satisfaction is? One day all of you are going to have to swallow your own medicine!"

I see the homeopath quoted in the OP is the same one who has a starring role in Rolfe's sig.

*sigh*

There's this One Million Dollar Prize just waiting for this guy to take. All he has to do is show homeopathy works under properly (i.e. sensible) controlled conditions. Should be a steal, no?

I thought that they didn't belive in bacteria?

The way that I read it (here (http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/332/7544/786?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&fulltext=birdflu&andorexactfulltext=and&searchid=1&FIRSTINDEX=0&sortspec=relevance&resourcetype=HWCIT)) it's talking about the media blowing it all out of proportion
In a global world with global media coverage and competition for sensational news, any hypothetical doomsday scenario that could capture the public imagination risks unleashing a media storm. and the public perception concentrating on 'wonder drugs' (Tamiflu). The article does criticise the stockpiling of such drugs and shows studies that question their usefulness in Winter (annual) Flu.

Unsurprisingly it looks like Homeopaths are deliberately misunderstanding a properly written article. To my, untrained, eyes the article is criticising the medias handling of the Bird Flu scare and subsequent health care decisions based on mob misunderstanding

Unsurprisingly it looks like Homeopaths are deliberately misunderstanding a properly written article. In some cases I'm quite prepared to believe that the misunderstanding is not deliberate.

It's ok, I'm just looking for consistency in the beliefs of homeopaths. I think I just realised my mistake…

Yeah, and people linked to the Bush administration made lots of money in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Obviously, Katrina was really a hoax.

In some cases, yes, I just don't think Snoopy is one of those cases .To mangle "Media induced panic" into "Bird Flu is a hoax created by big pharma to iincrease profits" takes a very special level of reading comprehension.

"The person benefitting from it is Donald Rumsfeld, who seems to have a hefty financial interest in the manufacture of "Tamiflu". Rumsfeld is the former president of Roche Laboratories."

No. The drug was developed by a Californian biotech company, Gilead Sciences. It is now made and sold by the giant chemical company Roche, which pays it a royalty on every tablet sold, currently about a fifth of its price.

Rumsfeld was on the board of Gilead from 1988 to 2001, and was its chairman from 1997. He then left to join the Bush administration, but retained a huge shareholding.

"according to The British Medical Journal, the whole Bird Flu scare is a hoax"

It doesn't say that. It states several opinions from pandemic specialists. Including:

"[In]the BMJ, public health experts in Belgium argued that the perception of risk over bird flu "is easily distorted" leading to a stockpiling of antiviral drugs."

Seemed to miss out:

"He said: "Of patients with influenza A (H5N1) admitted to hospital in Asia, between 44% and 100% have developed respiratory failure.

"If pandemic influenza behaves similarly, a large district hospital serving a population of 330,000 could expect more than 10 extra [intesive care unit] requests a day for several weeks at the peak of the epidemic."

I wonder why?

"Just look at autistic spectrum disorder; you've got nothing in the way of treatment! We've got complete cures! "

Prove it!

It is worth pointing out that Tamiflu is NOT a vaccine.

It is worth pointing out that Tamiflu is NOT a vaccine.Ben Goldacre (http://www.badscience.net/?p=216) did just that at some length a couple of months ago, in a national newspaper. Doesn't seem to have had much effect though.
