Former Military Air Traffic Controller Claims Comet Collision with Earth on May 25, 2006
KEALAKEKUA, Hawaii, April 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Eric Julien, a former French military air traffic controller and senior airport manager, has completed a study of the comet 73P Schwassmann- Wachmann and declared that a fragment is highly likely to impact the Earth on or around May 25, 2006.
Comet Schwassman-Wachmann follows a five-year orbit that crosses the solar system's ecliptic plane. It has followed its five year orbit intact for centuries; but, in 1995, mysteriously fragmented. According to Julien, this is the same year that a crop circle appeared showing the inner solar system with the Earth missing from its orbit. He argues the "Missing Earth" crop circle was a message from higher intelligences warning humanity of the consequences of its destructive nuclear policies. He links this crop circle to May 25, 2006, and identifies the comet Schwassmann-Wachman as the subject of higher intelligence communications.

Egads! Kind of reminds one of the Simpsons episodes involving the "Bart Simpson Comet" and the "X-Files" actors, eh?

I'd do both, you'd have all your bases covered. If you tell him you saved the world for him, and we all die anyway, it's not like he'll be around to question you.

i know logic shouldnt even enter into this, but how does earths dangerous nuclear policies relate to a comet plummeting towards earth. perhaps our nuclear technology could help divert a future collision, but i dont think that is what he's getting at. anyway, kudos to him for imcluding several CTs into one story.

Good Point. Or I could say I bought him a pony, but the comet killed it.

Boy, this modern military is really something. Back when I was on active duty, our air traffic controllers had no training on astronomy or crop circles.

Ha! I love that it's Bush's fault.
The worst thing about [rule 8] like this is that it may detract, or distract attention from things that really are this administration's fault!
There's enough to criticize them on the public record, without resorting to woo.

Or did the Earth get destroyed (by Px) in 2000 and something and they've all died off ?

Does the Bad Astronomer know?
What? That a guy who links crop circles and extraterrestrials to an astronomical event thinks his calculations are more correct than teams of people with the resources, observations, experience, and intelligence who do this for a living?

So, can't we like, uh, teleport away from earth or something? This has really got me upset because I was planning to win the lottery for my birthday and that isn't til June and now I don't know what I'm going to do because I was counting on that money and if the planet is like destroyed they probably will cancel the lottery draw and then I won't get MY CHANCE TO WIN $254 MILLION and that just is not fair at all because I've been waiting for this chance for years ever since the shower curtain showed me the face of Mary and the clock told me I would win the lotteryon THIS COMING BIRTHDAY and the clocked would not lie to me would it since I HAVE THE POWER...

I just read your review and it is just great. I apologize for not passing this news on to you directly; sorry, but doing such a thing did not even cross my mind since it was so silly.
However, it is good that you responded to it as such news can still cause some people to panic and possibly hurt themselves and/or others.

Boy, they can't even get the dates right! For those who didn't look into this, Comet SW-3 will get no closer than .0788 AU from earth (at least this is for the largest fragment C) on May 12th! That is roughly 7 million miles from earth. That is about 28 earth-moon distances! I haven't bothered to look into the other fragments distances from earth on their close approaches but they are all about the same distance as best I can tell.
Comets always bring out the loonies. Remember the Hale-Bopp companion?

In fairness to Yahoo "News," They're pretty open that they'll carry most press releases unedited, which is what this is. It's not like there was a Yahoo reporter taking this stuff down and retyping it for the news page.

To their credit, the discussion for this "news" story consists of three smart-arse "end's here, let's be self-indulgent" comments and one reference to the Bad Astronomer's take-down. :-)
What puzzles me is why this is in Yahoo's "Politics News" area instead of the "Oddly Enough" (quirky or funny items) where it belongs IMO.
