Wow. Just wow.

The entire "argument" is the same old rehashed C-14, Potassium inaccuracy, appeals to emotion and "things are pretty, 'cause God made them." Packaged up in a (poorly done) faux-anime comic book with heavy, textbook dialogue.

This level of disinformation should be criminal.

Alright, according to the comics on that page: porn is going to make you a sexist rapist (because the proliferation of pornography on the internet has led to a dramatic increase in the occurence of rape and a decrease in women's rights in the last 10 years, oh wait...), homosexuality is a sin and a choice (it's neither), the only safe sex is abstinance till marriage (tell that to your hormones), abortion is murder (do these people know that women's bodies do naturally reject fertilized eggs?), rock music is satanic (and christian rock sucks), school prayer is the answer to school violence (because all of the school shooters are atheists right?), evolution is a racist lie (despite the genetic and fossil evidence), drugs kill you and make you violent and depressed (like in Reefer Madness?), and that all of these problems can be fixed by Jesus.

Their mission statement reads: "In response to the tragic killings of students and teachers, we have launched a national “Bibles Not Bullets” campaign to legally smuggle Bibles into the public schools of America! Consider this: There has never been one law passed to prohibit the distribution of Bibles in America’s public schools. It is lawful for young people to give “The Truth for Youth” Bible to other students in their school, on school grounds."
Distributing bibles in public schools? That sounds mighty unconstitutional and I imagine that some people would object to their children being prosteletized, especially in a publically funded institution.

I'm no lawyer but I think it depends on who is doing the giving. If it is a student giving it to another student, nothing at all unconstitutional. If it is the school itself distributing them, then I'd say it was.

From the link:
Henry Morris, of the Institute for Creation Research, has in the past read racism into his interpretation of the Bible:

* Sometimes the Hamites, especially the Negroes, have even become actual slaves to the others. Possessed of a genetic character concerned mainly with mundane, practical matters, they have often eventually been displaced by the intellectual and philosophical acumen of the Japhethites and the religious zeal of the Semites (Morris 1976, 241).

Wow. Any Creationists want to explain that one?

Speaking of Spagetti...

The church of the flying spaghetti monster has nice pamphlets that can be printed and distributed...so does normalbobsmith.com. Gently blasphemous (and much less violent than the bible).

Religion makes you stupid. Keep it out of the schools.

The freedom of religion crowd really only want "their" religion to receive priveleges. Somehow, I don't think they'd advocate students filling in their own beliefs during the pledge such that one nation under "god"--could be a cacophony of beliefs--one nation under Zeus, Allah, Xena, Satan, non-one, the constitution, Jehovah, mother nature, --underdog...underwear...
and they'd no doubt be up in arms if Islamic students passed out ("legally smuggled") copies of the Koran and Mormons passed out the book of Mormon and Scientologists passed out Dianetics...

These don't quite attain the bizarre, freaky campiness of Jack Chick (who probably inadvertently scares far more kids away from his cause than he converts, and is thus a net positive), but they have their moments. My favorite was the one on safe sex, which appears to have been written by someone who knows absolutely nothing about sex, teenagers, or football. For starters, there's Skip, the libidinous lefty quarterback, throwing his 24th completion of the season. Unless the season began 30 minutes before the action begins, that's an extremely low number -- a good high-school QB will typically complete 24 passes in a single game. And yet, Sexy Skip is the greatest in Victory High history. Perhaps VHS is renown for its devastating ground attack, but if not, such an anemic passing game would make their name ironic. And there's saintly, chaste Reggie, making his 21st reception. Doesn't Skip ever throw to anyone else? If 24 completions makes Skip the greatest QB, those 21 catches must make Reggie the receiver nonpareil in the annals of ‘ol Victory High.

Next, we got Marcy, the (ahem) “easy” cheerleader, who’s what? maybe 12? She sure doesn’t look much older than that. And her brainy buddy Stats, who somehow knows that Skip has “hooked up” with 59% of the cheerleaders. I’m no math whiz, but unless someone’s devised a system where guys now get credit for “partial” hook ups, in order for 59% to come out to a whole cheerleader, doesn’t that mean VHS has at least 100 of them, and Skip has managed to bang 59? Why does a school even need that many cheerleaders? And where does Skip find the time to nail them all? (Even assuming he confines himself strictly to cheerleader tail, that’s an impressive number for a teenager, unless things have really changed since my high-school days.) Maybe this explains Skip’s minimalist courtship technique, which seems to consist of a couple of quick, crude comments made in passing to the compliant Marcy. Hey, it worked, so I guess I can’t diss it – although you’d think someone with Skip’s impressive sexual resume would be more selective and not go after someone who looks like she’s still playing with her Bratz dolls. And how did Stats get so intimately acquainted with Skip’s love life anyway?

Over the next couple of pages, Reggie and Skip fight over prepubescent Marcy’s soul. Anyone else notice the racist overtones of the blond white kid calling a black “bible boy” and accusing him of “flappin’ your lips”? I suspect the authors didn’t. Later, Marcy wonders about the dangers of sex, and Stats again reveals himself to be alarmingly well-informed on the subject, spouting off (ejaculating?) detailed statistics down to the decimal point. One that caught my eye was the “15% failure rate” for condoms. How, exactly, was that statistic determined? In a lab somewhere? What’s a “failure” anyway? Slipping off? Breaking? Getting left in your wallet? Inquiring minds want to know.

Later, in an apparent act of divine retribution, Skip gets sacked and fumbles. (That’s what he gets for holding the ball in his right hand; apparently forgetting he’s a southpaw.) And Marcy comes to regret her promiscuous ways. (I suspect Skip would have been the more at risk during that particular coupling.) And Reggie persuades everyone to see the light (so convincingly that even the dim-witted Rhino comes to see the error of his ways), with his simple reverse-Nike slogan: Just Don’t Do It!

Who writes this stuff??

I suspect the authors didn’t.Oh, I rather suspect they did, because something very similar occurs in the tract on evolution, and in much more pronounced fashion. Nice bit of psychological warfare, implicitly linking irreligiousness to racism. Because, as we all know, racism didn't exist before the Enlightenment and Darwin's Origin of Species.

Getting left in your wallet? Inquiring minds want to know. There's an excelent chapter on this in Michael Stebbins' Sex, Drugs and DNA. (Well, the chapter is on reproductive health and public policy in general, but it covers this along the way.)

The jist of the story (If I remember right, I've already loaned my copy of the book out.) is that they're misrepresenting an older NIH report that presents an 85% reduction in transmission risk and includes things like crabs, oral herpes, etc that dont get blocked by condoms anyway. I'd have to do some homework to make sure that's accurate, though; tonight I'm too lazy.

Hmm, one wonders what Tim Todd and his ilk would make of the fact that that non plus ultra racist pariah of the latter half of the 20th century, Apartheid South Africa, was inspired by, and routinely defended on the basis of, the "inerrancy of holy scripture and universality of Christian principles," rather than through evolution. The common rules of inferential logic, if judiciously applied, would require that the thesis be revised, if not entirely abandoned, on the strength of such a compelling counterexample.

Of course, that'll never happen.

Just believe that it won't.

Have faith.

The NullMind works in inconsistent ways.

Evolution does create racists.

The people who believe in evolution and are racists are not paying attention to the science. We are now at a point where we have sequenced the DNA of enough people of all races and cultures all over the world that we know that all humans are way too closely related to justify any racist superiority bull$#!+. Some tribes in africa are more distantly related to each other than white people are from blacks. We also have tracked down the very tribe in africa from which all other kinds of people derive. So, evolutionary science as it stands now cannot be used to justify racism. Plus the genes that define races like skin color and some facial skeletal features are the result of only a handful mutations, they are not big differences at all.

I think it's more along the lines of "Racists use a straw man version of evolution to 'justify' their racism."
