Talk about a flashback - don't remember the specific game so much as that particular kind of game ie the sounds, similar graphics etc.

I killed two of the dragons, only to be killed by the third.
Maybe I'll try again later.

I won. Haven't played that game in a while. So satisfying to kill the red duck.

How do you kill the ducks? And why can they walk through walls when I can't?
And why am I a green square?

you need to get the sword to kill the ducks. which is really a yellow arrow.
Ducks are special.
Because back in my day they didn't need your fancy graphics of today.

Shame its only game 1, not game three with the extra screens and randomized placement.

Adventure is awesome - the first game (or one of - I forget) with a hidden easter egg. It's true!

Oh! I remember this! It was a lot easier than that damn Indiana Jones game!

I killed the ducks, took the Grail (I guess) to the yellow castle. There was a lot of flashing colors, and my green square wouldn't move anymore. Was that the end of the game? Did I win? Did I lose? I'm confused.

The duck stole the red square's magnet and the game froze up. I win!

I used to play that game with my eyes closed. I could get from black castle, to white castle, back to the yellow castle just by timing my joystick directions. Much more challenging than the game itself. Plus, you could walk through walls if you knew how, and you didn't need the bridge or the white dot. I was the Adventure! king!!!!
Edited to add: This simulation lacks many of the glitchs of the original and has some errors in execution.

That's state of the art 1979 graphics, boy! Adventure rules!
For an even less graphically delicious experience, and IMO a more fun one, try playing Haunted House.

Like, omigod, Haunted House. I'm having flashbacks. That's another game I could play in my head from memory. Who needs cartridges? Remember Kaboom!? I can still hear "splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish splish" in my dreams.

I played that damn thing for I don't know how long to get it to that level.
What happened? The burglar's mouth changed from a smirk to an "oooh!" look.
I almost threw the paddle controller through my little TV set.

Many Atari easter eggs were like that. Most consisted soley of 3 initials.

Be fair, those three initials took up something like 10% of the available memory ;)
I've got eh Atari Flashback console at the house. 15 classic games, in a little box you hook to the TV. It has Adventure.
Of course, my All-time favorite was Combat. Invisible Tank Pong!!!!!!

Well, I can't kill the duck things, but I managed to find a glitch and get myself trapped. Do I win something for that?

I'm kinda confused; I went to the link and found a screen of the old Adventure game, but it doesn't do anything at all, no matter what I click on, or doubleclick on.
I can click on the game reset to get the green dot and castle screen, and also change the screen to black and white, and power the screen on and off, but that's it. What's the point of this thing?

hit the reset "game reset" button on your lower right. that should set you straight.
the screen should change and you can play the game with the arrow keys.

Hahahaha!!!
The game was called "Adventure" for the Atari 2600. You had to find this chalice (cup) and bring it back to the golden castle while these three dragons would try to stop you by trying to kill you and a bat would fly down and take your stuff! You had this sword that you could use to kill the dragons (not ducks!! hahaha) and you make it harder so that dragons could run from the sword (making them harder to kill.)
It was a classic! We used to play that you had to kill all the dragons first before you could win. If you got eaten by a dragon, you had to start over, but if you killed any previous dragons, they would come alive again! I hated that bat too! He would often give you useless objects. Sometimes you could get stuck in walls or the bridge that you could use to pass through walls to get objects would close on you and you would have to reincarnate.
We used to do things like wait for the bat to try to take the cup away and then enter the castle just as he was coming up or just as a dragon was biting us! hahaha! (The game would do its little victory theme and the dragon would sit there with his mouth open! hahaha!) If you were good, you could lock the dragons inside the castles and get em pissed off!! hahaha or hide the sword against the wall so the dragons couldn't see it till it was too late!! But, yea, when you killed them, they DID look like ducks! hahaha!

Good afternoon.
I have an Atari 2600 hooked up and about 100 carts. I also have my Atari 800, ST, Mega 4, and Jaguar all ready to play at any time. You never know when you need to flashback to the 70's and 80s'. Oh yeah, and I have a Pong as well.

you need to steal the yellow key from the yellow duck (dragon) and go into the yellow castle and get the yellow arrow (sword)

Another weird thing about that game was that even if the dragon ate you, the game was basically still running. Sometimes the bat would pick up the dragon that had eaten you and dly around with the both of you through the game.
Also, you could lock the keys inside their own castle, which made it impossible to ever get back inside.
