Well, check this one out:Mr. Louis tells us that "the RealityCheck™ CDs are bit for bit identical with the copied discs," but through a process of "synchromatics," the time alignment of each note's fundamentals with its harmonics is achieved so that "its harmonics neither lead nor lag the note's fundamentals …

Um...

The bits contain all the information about the harmonics, the only information about the harmonics, and so on...

My brain does not hurt. My keyboard might.

I'm not sure which is the stupider article. This one or the godless Linux one.

Monumental stupidity.

What once was lost, now is found.:D

jj,

I was curious about one comment from the commentary. Does cat5 cable make good speaker wire? I've never heard that before.

I'm curious too. I found an article (http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/cat5questions_e.html) about making your speaker wires from Cat5. Cat5 does conduct electricity so it would work. It would also be usable in wall but I think I would just as soon use CL3 rated speaker wire in wall. I'd be willing to bet that just like other audio stuff you wouldn't hear the difference between Cat5 speaker wire and plain old 14g zip cord. If you happened to have a big surplus of Cat5 give it a try.

Cat5 is what, 24 gauge?

In the post it says cat5 is the best, but not exactly in what way its the best. I'm doubtfull as well that there would be an audio improvement.

Waaaay back when I first got into high-end audio, back in the early 70's, I was somehow under the impression that I had to use shielded cable for speaker connection. I did so (probably improperly) and blew up my amplifier. Only $75 to fix it in those days. Never did get rid of that burnt electronics smell though.

No reason to use shielded cable. Induced noise signals are usually far too low to be audible on speakers, and if audible signals were induced, shielding would be unlikely to help any.

As for the CD copier "technical explanation": Total rubbish. It ain't even good technobabble.

Hi all,

I finally got signed up for the forums after a false start....

Please see the other "little correction" thread for my somewhat verbose comments, I won't repeat them here.

cheers!
