Why would people follow the likes of L. Ron Hubbard?

Since I am not, nor do I ever envision myself being, a follower of L. Ron Hubbard, I cannot even begin to imagine what motivates such people.

If your question is anything but rhetorical, Pauliesonne, I suggest asking people who actually do follow Jesus for their reasons, instead of asking skeptics for their speculations.
