View Full Version : Monitor Problem

I've had this monitor for awhile, but I stopped using because of the problem mentioned below. I have been using a crappy 15inch monitor for the last two years. Today I decided I wanted my 19inch back, and it started out working fine. Then the text would start to get progressively more blurry (jumpy). I remedied this (temporarily) by increasing the refresh rate. But then it started messing up again, so and I bumped up the refresh rate again. Right now I'm at 100 (the default is 60). All of this has happened in the last forty minutes.
Is this probably a physical/tube problem that will not go away? I mean, it's stable now.

It does seem like an oscillator may be being affected by some physical factor.
I think the best recommendation I can give is to think about investing in a flatscreen. You never truly appreciate just how much space a 19 inch CRT is wasting until you reclaim it.

I've seen similar things happen due to both radios and celphones giving off interference near the monitor. Ideally this would not happen and can be due to bad shielding in the monitor.

Red Siegfreid...
Thats exactly what happened to my son...
I bought him one of those 'Retina retention magic clocks' where a magnet waves an arm back and forth...He stuck it next to his CRT monitor and the whole screen went wild...
But as Cyborg posted...A 19" flat screen looks a real lot bigger ( screen size) than a similiar sized CRT...
If i recall...A 17' flat screen is just a bit bigger than a 19 CRT (visible screen)
Well worth upgrading...the space you save on your desk is immense..

True nuff. The space that was formerly taken up by my CRT is now taken up with two fag packets, one ashtray, several CDs (no cases), and lots of those plastic beer-four-pack things. It makes a nice vista before the screen.
Cheers,
Rat.

My desktop is like a woman's purse -- no matter what I do it's going to be overflowing with crap. CRT, Flatscreen, same business.
Anyway, I just keep adjusting the resolution and refresh rate. Sometimes it works for several hours, other times for several minutes before getting FUBAR.

I have the same problem with a monitor I have. It starts out fine but as I'm using it the text gets very blurry. Turning it off for a while makes it go away but within a half hour it's blurry again.
Googling for my particular monitor turned up an explanation pointing to some transformer or other that is being affected by heat. Short answer: it would cost as much to fix it as getting a new monitor.
