The "Nobel Prize nominee in xxxxxxx" line is a fairly standard BS detection point. From the Nobel Prize FAQ (http://nobelprize.org/help/faq/index.html) -

It is getting more likely, as the years progress, that it's possible for someone to be a known, living candidate so it's always worth checking ;)
