This "American Association of Professional Psychics" claims to be "Registered with the US Government"
I see no details of this claim on the FAQ nor on any other page of this website.
As I notice the circled "R" after certain names, however, I suspect the only things "registered" are trademarks!:D

Wasn't that the plot of "X-men"?

I can't find any email address, or other ways of "contacting" them than through an 800-number.

There's an address here - it seems to be the same outfit:

http://www.certifiedpsychics.com/certprog.html

Why not try applying? Its very easy - all you need is:

1. A recent photo; a copy of your driver's license or business license
2. Letters of recommendation from at least three private clients who can attest to your psychic ability
3. Copies of any third party acounts of your psychic ability, such as newspaper articles or press releases, proof of police work.
4. An essay detailing how you came to develop your psychic abilities, and how you believe your unique gifts can be of service
5. $35.00 Certification Fee.

After your materials have been reviewed and your references checked, you will be contacted to schedule your three trial consultations. This is a process of review by your peers. Members of the Certification Committee are Certified Psychics.

Benefits of Certification
1. Client Referrals
2. Qualification for Telephone Counseling
3. Merchant Account billing services for your private practice
4. Opportunities for television / radio appearances when psychics are requested
5. Press and publicity for your unique talents

Basically the organisation is a woo promotion and marketing tool where woos certificate woos under the guise of a 'professional' sounding umbrella group.

In the UK we have The British Psychic Registration Board - another silly outfit promoting all things psychic under a pseudo professional veil. They claim to be the regulatory body of the UK psychic world offering 'accredited' woos to the uninformed. The whole scheme is a rather neat money making scheme for the psychics, BPRB organisers and providers of 'approved courses' necessary for full BRPB accreditation. Their web site is worth a look if only for its comedy value - how about their motto for a start 'Safety in Psychics"?!

There's an analysis of the BPRB at http://www.theskepticexpress.com/British_psychic_registration_board.php

As I notice the circled "R" after certain names, however, I suspect the only things "registered" are trademarks!:DAnd that trademark appears to have lapsed on May 28 2005,

Are there penalties for advertising under a trademark that no longer is "live"?

The above trademark was tracked down through American Association of Professional Psychics(R) (http://www.certifiedpsychics.com/Psychic-Certification/certification.html).
