View Full Version : Spybot: SHUT UP

Without warning a week or so ago, Spybot started announcing every time it blocked something with a little pop-up window, eg "Spybot has block A Avenue Inc!" - you just click OK and it goes away, but it gets REALLY old when it does it EVERY time on a site that keeps trying to load it.
I've checked/tweaked the settings to no avail. Might this be a phony spyware claiming to be spybot? Anyone familiar w/this situation?

Maybe you're running the "Tea Timer" option?

IE and I presume the "tea timer" thing was some inside joke as I see no such option.

I'd suggest thorough scans from two or three other malware scanners, it may well be that your system has already picked up the nasty stuff and Spybot is blocking it when it's trying to send data out.

Stuff that you didn't put on your computer that is doing something you would rather it didn't. Virues, spyware whatever. Term has been around for a while.

In the SD program, look under "Tools" and click on the "Resident" button. There is an option for the "TeaTimer" in there.
Also, under the "Immunize" section, there is an option for "Block bad pages silently", etc.
SD's settings are scattered around a bit, unfortunately. Be better if they were all in one spot, but it's basically a good program and the price is right.

Although I get the feeling he wants a couple of dollars for the effort he puts into it. He's claiming it's basically a full time job now, which it would be.
