Excellent documentary, quite brilliant and entertaining.
edit: for future convenience, here's the chapter that provided the link:
Years ago, I did a film titled, “James Randi in Australia.” It can now be seen at video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7461912885649996034 courtesy of both Richard Saunders and Dick Smith – it was Dick who produced it and gave permission for its use. Lots of dowsers with various whirligigs – and the usual amount of success.
end edit
I also found there was a link to this James Randi Sceptics 2000 consomething and watched that too, so I spent more than 2 hours yesterday watching Randi speak.(And I think I can also now do a couple of "new" neat magic trick when next time there's a bbq party featuring me and my friends :) and I gotta say now I understand a lot of things better now!
I mean, he's a good writer and I've been reading his commentary for a couple months now... but it seems he's even better as a speaker!
So, uh, any of you wouldn't know of any more legally attainable, easily downloadable Randi speech videos out there in the wild wild web?
edit2: Oh and I have to add, when he was talking about how those who need to believe the woo woo stuff cant really be helped but how instead the younger generations can still be saved... that's spot on! I'm one of that younger generetion (I'm 24) and really, I feel I've been saved from the woo. I used to believe in all sorts of stuff like I was kind of religious but am now more sceptical of all things divine... and I used to wonder about things like discovery channel documentary about psychic witnesses, even had long talks about ouija boards and such with my friends. Now though, I do critical thinking.
Though the process was probably started by the bad astronomer when I was very worried about planetx and read his debunking, I then also started reading this JREF thing and I have to say I've had great educational time. I hate school but this kind of reading is fun and rewarding. How do you do that?
