Pirate Bay all gone

Not that I ever used it (of course), but the Pirate Bay have been raided. All servers held, three people held.

Anyone missing it? Anyone glad to see it gone?

News at www.piratebay.org, which I feel I can link to now that it's not hosting any torrents.

I'm pretty much opposed to DRM on any product, but I really think this kind of stuff is crap. Can't remember much about Pirate Bay, but even if they were only a search engine to torrents hosted elsewhere they were an enabling site for wholesale pirating.

I love to archive my own stuff, I rip DVD's to iPod video format, I strip DRM from Tivo recordings and save those, I pretty much only buy music from emusic.com (everything in MP3 no DRM). And yes, I've been known to share the occasional file with friends/family. But I really have no sympathy for the pirating of stuff in bulk.

On their site, before the raid of course, they claimed what they were doing was not violating Swedish law. Interesting claim when their current sites says one of the allegations is assisting breach of copyright law.

There are soooo many torrent sites though it means little in the grand scheme, popular as pirate bay is.

Consider that linking to such a reference site could also be considered "assisting breach of copyright law."

How far does that go? A link to a page with a link to a page with a link to a page with a link to an illegal torrent? Where does it end?

Are forum posts excluded, or do forums have to disallow posting links 'just to be safe' ?

I don't know how responsible legally forum owners are for the contents of posts, but certainly I recall that someone was prosecuted (possibly just sued) for a forum post. I will, of course, not now be able to edit my post (too much time has passed) to remove the link should Pirate Bay become live again in a couple of days, as they claim it will.

I will still be interested to see the outcome of this.
