Kids brandish guns to test IDF vigilance
A group of Palestinian children were sent towards the Gaza Strip border fence holding toy guns on Thursday in order to test the vigilance of the soldiers on duty.
From a distance, troops noticed four apparently armed Palestinians approaching the border north of the Kissufim crossing.

either
1) The kids were just playing with toy guns.....
2) They'd been sent to the border in order to provoke an attack from the IDF...and it was hoped that in their deaths they'd become martyrs for the occupation...
3) The kids were just playing, and the IDF circulated this story for the purpose of showing how debased the Palestinians are....
Unfortunately (2) is wholly believable....which just shows how messed up the region is....

It would be much better if 1 or 3 were correct.

I've read various accounts of some of the atrocities and what these children are forced to do and become and it has literally reduced me to tears. I think it is one probably the most disgusting abuses of children possible, slave labouring would be a welcome respite for some of these children!

Well, if Palestinian parents let their kids play with guns near Israli checkpoints, the parents should be visited by social workers and have a hearing held to see if they are fit paren...
...uhh...
...nevermind. They've got a long, long way to go to get that far. Especially, as you note, #2 is, sadly, wholely believable.

What is the source for this story? Does it appear in any other media?
Yaakov Katz is the author, yet he offers no basis for this report. He does not say "According to the IDF" -- he seems to place the information in context of a firsthand account.
Regarding the threat posed by 13-year-old 'shaheeds' --

I'm not going to read your links because I find them as depressing as you do, but last I checked out the news from Congo it involved canibalism.
Certainly the situation in that region of Africa is much more extreme than anything in Gaza.

First I thought: Well, maybe...
Then I read that the "kids" were estimated to be about 13 years old. Anyone here still playing with toy guns at 13? Anyone?

Psst... Mycroft ... Don't go referring to Muslims as "crusade[rs]." They really don't like that.

Why not?
That's pretty much what inspires this sort of thing. It's a crusade to drive the infidels from the Holy Land.
