Ran across this (http://www.animationarchive.org/2006/05/media-george-pettys-ridgid-tools.html) while reading Chris Cooper's blog. (Good stuff, that.) I wasn't aware they made steel toed ballet slippers, but hell, you learn something new every day.

Miss August '52 is kind of cute, but I have to say Miss April of '53 needs to cut back on the Prozac...

That. Is. Amazing.

I mean, evidently there was some demand to have them all prance about on tiptoes in ballerinas! Talk about style! None of that saline-bags-in-your-face-draped-on-roadster stuff that we get plied with!

*sigh* good times, good times...

Those ballet shoes would not be steel-capped, my white-line friend. They are standard pointe shoes, as worn by senior ballerinas. They have hard wooden inserts in the toe.

Yep, garage mechanic pr0n, 1950's style. Nothing new under the sun...

And do you think any of those ladies could smile any wider without cracking at the back of the neck?

You really had not heard of the famous Rigid Tool calendars? Hehe, must not frequent those old-time garages where you'd hang out with the owner/mechanic (and ogle the calendars) while he worked on your car.

Later on, they used photographs, of course. My wife was actually a 1967 calendar girl.

I'd like to give it a shot. See if I could make them smile a bit more.

*Sigh*.... Who am I kidding? In out house, we take our cue from George Burns and Gracie Allen: "Some people get married for laughs. Some get married for sex. In our house, Gracie got both. Whenever we had sex, she laughed."

Alas, I have none! The wife was about 18 at the time (1967) and she doesn't recall if the photos she did were used directly or were to be used as poses for an artist.
I was unable to find any archive of the Rigid calandars in about an hour's searching.

Is it just me, or does Ms. April 1953 look like she just escaped from an insane asylum?
