View Full Version : I have seen miracles ...

Several times during the World Cup I saw a player fall to the ground, obviously in severe pain and incapable of getting up. In approximately 3% of the incidents I saw, the player was carried off on a stretcher, but in the remaining 97%, he made a full recovery in less than 30 seconds after a healing glance from the referee.

It is perfectly clear, firstly, that God takes an interest in the World Cup, although there are sceptics who doubt it; and secondly, that He uses referees as agents in the exercise of His miraculous power.

It seems that the healing powers wielded by televangelists affect only soccer players (and, to a somewhat lesser extent, basketball players).

That's nothing. I've seen the Zidane headbutting incident in multiple videos, and in each view something different and amazing happens. That's got to be supernatural.

Proof? You want PROOF?! I gotcher proof right here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=142333

That's nothing! I saw a Detroit Lions game about 20 years ago where a flag was thrown for "roughing the kicker", the punter in this case.

The defensive man is not allowed to tackle the kicker after he's kicked the ball (although it's full and fair game up until that point.) The defense man saw the kick was going to be made before he got there, so he ran buy the punter's outstretched leg. Even though video clearly showed several inches of space between the punter's foot and the defense man's high speed, freighttrain-like body, the foot still snapped around sideways as if snagged by the defense man, rotating the punter's body due to the astounding leverage, and generating a penalty by the ref (and a severe one at that as roughing the kicker is a no-no.)

God, indeed, works in mysterious ways.

Yeah, but WHICH version of God. The same thing happened to players from Muslim and heathen nations.

And we worship that nothingness.

That's right.

Nothing is sacred.

Wish I still had Gahan Wilson's book of cartoons, "Is Nothing Sacred?" The cover shows a man in business suit asking this question of a procession of mystically-costumed guys carrying poles, each topped with a reverentially ornamented zero.

That's where I borrowed it from, except I remember it as an empty pedastal with a big ornate "N" on the pedastal. You're scary.

Oh man, my parents might still have that one. I'll have to ask if they held on to it after the move.

Meffy, want to make an offer?

@Tricky: The "N" could well be right, I've not seen it in ages.

@Genesius: I'd like to but am in the process of trying to get rid of things so I'd best not. But thanks for asking.

I just googled all images for "Gahan Wilson" and that book cover is not there. You might fetch a good price for it on E-Bay.

I'll have to see if they still have it, first. They moved from a decent-sized house to a trailer park so they had to do some serious downsizing of possessions. Almost killed my mother - she hates to get rid of books.

I caught the bug, too, so I've got boxes of books waiting for the day I can afford a big enough house for all the bookshelves.

<sigh> Sure, if you're addicted to drugs or booze there's all kinds of groups out there to help you. But if you're addicted to books there's nothing! Just gotta keep feeding that monkey on your back.

Well, that was obviously Satan's doing. I hear he's a big futbol fan and bets heavily on the games. It's in the Bible somewhere...
