I posted this question back in the bad old days before the internet and got a good response. Those of you on PLATO , hush!

If we have immortal souls we know one thing. They are not like anything here on earth. So what use would they have , why would there be souls?

Theory One: The Moo Cow Theory

Souls are food for ultra advanced and impossible to detect beings. They put souls into us just to fatten them up and then they eat them.

Peace

I don't know; ask the fuel when it gets back.

That's a good question. Given that they are defined to be something other than anything we know about, of what possible use are they?

It's like the new-ager who believes in reincarnation, but believes that all your memorys are left behind. What, exactly, is passed on?

If a soul isn't me, then what use is it? And if I am a soul, then what use is my brain?

What the heck, I'll play.

You have the question backwards. It should be, "why do souls have us?" The answer, of course, is to learn specific lessons before returning to soul-land.

It seems to me there must be a way to quantify how much soul a person has based on their dancing and/or music playing ability. Maybe an Soul Quotant (SQ) of some kind?

I prefer "spirit" to "soul" for the simple reason that "spirit" is releated to the breath, and that breath is a sign of life.

Dum Spiro Spero, as they say in South Carolina.

"Soul" is supposedly related to "secular" - from Dictionary.com

\Soul\, n. [OE. soule, saule, AS. s[=a]wel, s[=a]wl; akin to OFries. s?le, OS. s?ola, D. ziel, G. seele, OHG. s?la, s?ula, Icel. s[=a]la, Sw. sj["a]l, Dan. si[ae]l, Goth. saiwala; of uncertain origin, perhaps akin to L. saeculum a lifetime, age (cf. Secular.)]

Which is funny if true - Spiritual and Secular coming from the same root, not unlike Catholic = parochial (universal = local)

But I digress.
