When Mr. Randi helpfully mentioned, in his 23 May Commentary, the certification number for his 19 May 2003 letter to Sylvia Browne, I couldn't resist checking it on the US Postal Service Track & Confirm website (http://www.usps.com/shipping/trackandconfirm.htm), where anybody with an Internet connection and a browser can see how Ms. Browne treats this whole matter. To quote from the letter's USPS delivery record (http://trkcnfrm1.smi.usps.com/netdata-cgi/db2www/cbd_243.d2w/output?strOrigTrackNum=70030500000230348133&CAMEFROM=OK):

"Your item was refused by the addressee at 12:12 pm on May 22, 2003 in CAMPBELL, CA 95008 and is being returned to the sender."

I'd say that's a fitting metaphor for the necessary rejection of rational thought required of Ms. Browne and other pseudo-psychics.

it doesn't surprise me a bit. Believers will simply say that Sylvia doesn't accept "hate mail" or some other crap to justify Sylvia's failure to follow through.

You're right, they probably would say that, and without stopping to consider that few people would bother to send hate mail via registered mail.
