View Full Version : SF Bay area hangout?

I was inspired by RoadToad making mention in a thread (that I'm too lazy to link to) that when you suggest a get-together, you get looked at funny.

You look at me funny and I'll throw something heavy at you. Ok? Ok.

So here's the deal. I wouldn't mind getting together sometime this month, or next or the one after that to grab a beer or seven. Thing is, I have no idea who else is near me (aside from RoadToad, that is) and what they like to do. Maybe we've got some people that don't want to drink beer but don't mind meeting in a pub. Or maybe they not only DON'T want to drink beer, but hate pubs too. Maybe a coffee shop? I dunno.

Maybe it would easier to say what it WON'T be:

It won't be a "Race to get hammered" event.

It won't be a circlejerk where we try and see who is smartest. (It's me, I'm trying to save your ego from the bruises)

It won't be anything more than some fairly like-minded people to get together and have fun. We can play some pool or shuffleboard. I'm not looking for a "HAY EVERYBODY WE ARE SKEPTICS" event so much as a fun time. I can sit through a presentation at TAM, after all.

If there are more of you out there besides RoadToad and I, and you like fun, and you aren't a creepy introvert that pisses in 2 liter bottles and saves them in your closet to use as zombie repellent when the apocalypse comes down, then reply to this thread or shoot me a PM to discuss possibilities for this exciting venture.

There's a Dave & Buster's in the Great Mall of the Bay Area near Fremont. It's one of my favorite places to get together to meet people I've never met before. Pool, shuffleboard, videogames, dinner, bar, and all pretty darn clean, all things considered.

So now we've got Beleth in. I think Beleth is a Female. That should bring in at least ten men.

I get down to the South Bay on occasion.

Eight men to go...

I think Fremont's about an hour and half from me. Do-able. When?

I'll give this thread a week or two to see how many people would be cool for showing up, then throw up a poll to check on a date. This will almost certainly be a weekend event, though, because I want people to relax and have fun, not check watches to see if it's time to go yet or have to skip out due to work.

I'm also posting this thread over at SC, being that they're birds of a feather and all. It's pretty sad that I have to say this, but there will be no anti-SC faggotry, or vice versa. Not singling anyone out, everyone posting so far seems pretty good gear, I'm just being pre-emptive.

After strenuous research (10 minutes on their website) I have decided this place is looks pretty much perfect. People that want to chill and have drinks can do that. People that want to play bar games can do that too. People that have ADD and love killing zombies or racing cars can hit the videogame section.

Frankly, if nothing at this place appeals to you, you should be in a box and I don't want you to come anyway.

If there is a problem with the location, PM me or post in the thread and I'll try to address the issue. If it's just you, you'll probably have to tough it out, though. Oh yeah, it's location is listed as Milpitas.

I think Beleth would be surprised to hear that!

If Beleth has been on the internet more than five minutes, I'm fairly certain she's not surprised at all.

Wouldn't be the first time.

Possible, but is date dependent as I'll be driving in from the Sacramento area. I'd likely try and mix it in with a Bay Area visit.

Stop pretending you don't remember. It's okay if you're embarassed to admit you gave it up at TAM in exchange for a deck of casino cards and my JREF shirt, but don't play dumb with me.

I'm in for any day other than Aug 19 or July 30.

In fact, based on previous skeptic-gathering experience, I'm in for several times. You people tend to be fun.

If you're in Sacramento, we could share driving. I'm in North Highlands.

That works! Be happy to pick you up.

Least, I better be happy, or it's one lone trip. :)

I'm not that cheap, so you have me confused with someone else.

I can understand, there must have been quite a few.

Or, I could pick you up. Remember, kids, I'm a professional. Don't try this at home!

I'm too far north in Yoube Silly for that too work. I'd have to snag you on the way down.

Unless you really like driving. :D

Yeah. I want to meet folks before they do the Zep shuffle.

Oh and hey, Roadtoad. As long as I've got you here, check your PMs regarding that thing we discussed.

Looks like I won't be able to make it on Saturday. New gig starts Sunday, and I have to be there EARLY. Leaving from West Sacramento, arriving Sumner, WA, Monday morning.

We shall see how this goes.

Bummer for Saturday but best of luck on the new gig.

If you were a real driver, you could leave Sunday morning and make it with plenty of time to spare.

Yeah, but I'm a real driver, and this time, only a passenger. Plus, I run legal.

Legal is for suckers. Drive like you're fleeing the scene, man.

I kid, I kid. Good luck with the new position, hopefully you'll make the next one.
