It was pointed out to me by several folks in the Science section that, "loosely" speaking, Haeckel's "Ontogeny Recaputulates Phylogeny" idea holds some scientific water, while "tightly" speaking it is all wet. If that difference of perspective about an idea is applied to other ideas, are ideas "loosely" spoken of more likely to fall into the province of philosophy or the province of science?

Neither providence claims loose speaking as a quality. Both want to be a specific as possible, and for largely the same reasons, sometimes they can't.
