Not to call him out or anything. But I've noticed that whenever I open a thread in which Beerina has posted, my internet explorer kind of locks up and refuses to load Beerina's avatar or any other picture files for that matter. The problem persists even if I start surfing another website. I can usually get text, but no pictures.
I'm using the 5.50 version of Internet Explorer. This is a work computer in which I don't have admin priviledges, so installing a different or updated browser is not an option.
I suppose I could put Beerina on ignore, or turn off avatars maybe, but I was just curious whether anybody else had the same problem.

No troubles here.
I don't know about MSIE, but in Firefox you can install an extension called "Adblock." This lets you right-click an image, then choose "Adblock image..." from the pop-up menu to see a dialog box for entering/editing a filter (wildcards allowed). I've got it installed but haven't used it yet.

It's a pretty simple gif, not even animated. Have you tried clearing your temporary Internet files? sometimes they muck things like that up.

That's a good idea. I've seen files that get stuck in the cache and absolutely mess everything up when they're reloaded.
This is the first thing to try. If it doesn't work, let us know.. I've seen it where the Temporary Internet Files can not be completely cleaned out due to a corrupt 'index.dat' file. It's a pain when this happens, but not impossible to fix.

Put in a help ticket through your supervisor to have a system administrator look at the problem.
Oh, wait... don't do that.

I've just reloaded Beerina's avatar, have a look at Beerina's profile here and see if the problem persists: http://forums.randi.org/member.php?u=2317

Thanks Darat. Unfortunately, the problem persists.
I tried deleting my temporary internet files, but that didn't work either. For now, I have Beerina on ignore. I'm sure he's crushed.

The problem is definitely on your side then - the avatar is a new avatar as far as your computer and browser would be concerned. (Different file and a different filename.)

Or, you could turn avatars off :)

I think that it's a corrupt cache on your account; The 'index.dat' file needs to be deleted.
Please check out this article, scroll down to the 'Completely Deleting the Temporary Internet Files and index.dat' section. It is much easier if you have more than one account on your machine, one of which has Admin privileges.

I've seen this same problem countless times, and this fixed it.

Therein lies your problem! Why won't they upgrade your software, though? Don't tell me they still make you use Win98? Old browsers are security issues.

You can install Firefox without admin privileges. Just install it under C:\Firefox when it prompts you for a path (as C:\Program Files is often blocked when you don't have admin access).

It looks like I will be changing companies at the end of this month, so I think I will wait and see how my new computer responds. Thanks to everybody for the responses.
