A man from Brazil has been charged with practicing medicine without a license after a woman died during a liposuction procedure at a home in Framingham.
49-year-old Luiz Carlos Ribeiro and his wife will be arraigned Monday in Framingham District Court. Both were arrested early Monday morning, a day after the 23-year-old patient died.
According to a report in the Boston Globe, Ribeiro allegedly started the procedure in the basement of his home in the Bishop Gardens condominiums. A witness told the paper the woman coughed during the procedure and passed out. Ribeiro reportedly brought the woman to the MetroWest Medical Center Sunday evening, where she died.
