Are you there God? Movie inspires Twin Cities phone calls (http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/3909243.html)

Since the movie "Bruce Almighty" hit the theaters nationwide Friday, Becvar and a number of other people across the country have been getting a lot of calls , because they have the same seven-digit number that God has in the movie.

The number is repeatedly displayed on a pager whenever God (Morgan Freeman) wants to talk to Jim Carrey, who plays a TV newsman.

"I had no idea what was happening," Becvar said. Now she sees it as a "great opportunity to talk about God."

She has even changed her voice message, turning it into a minisermon.

Callers to the number in the east metro's 651 area code will hear Becvar preach: "Looking for God? Well, I'm not him, but I do know him. And knowing him has changed my life. You can know him, too. In fact, it's a local call.

"To get to God, call on Jesus. Jesus said that he is the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to God the Father except through him.

"So, if you want a reconciled relationship with God, your sins forgiven, hope in this world, and eternal life when you die, call upon Jesus Christ and you'll have a direct connection to God. You won't regret it."

Alas, this just reminds me that I belong to a stupid species which confuses fiction with reality all the time.

Someone started a thread about a person with a similar number in Florida, getting phone calls because they have the same number "God" does in the movie.

I'm not Christian, but if I were, I could see myself doing the same thing this Becvar person did. :D

Why isn't it legal to terminate (or at least sterlize) people so stupid they think God's phone number is in a movie but not in the phone book?

Seriously, isn't picking up the phone and expecting God to answer behaviour worthy of hospitalization?

They must be calling just to see what happens. They can't possibly think god is on the other end of the line.

I would agree for the vast numbers of callers had to be I believe be doing just that. Like all the people who called 867-5309 I believe most did not believe Jenny would answer. ( well that bitch never did answer for me any of the 10000 times) :D

My wife works in phone-based technical support. Today she talked to a man who met God in 1984. Not found him, but met him.

Trust me... some of them really thing God will answer the phone.

I dunno. Is it any crazier than talking into empty space and expecting God to answer?

Bwahahha!! I think if I had that phone number, I'd be using it as a great opportunity to educate people on other mythological christs that predate christianity.

Ahh, so the ones who mumble into their hands, or don't vocalize anything... they're WAY more sane?
