This statement about Billy Graham is telling:

"Born near Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1918, Billy Graham first attended Bob Jones College, but he found both the climate and Dr. Bob's strict rule intolerable."

http://www.ctlibrary.com/ch/2000/Issue65/1.12.html

Some quotes from these good men of god:

"I would rather see a saloon on every corner than a Catholic in the White House. I would rather see a ****** as president."

"God is the author of segregation."

---Bob Jones, Sr.

"Blacks aren't attracted to fundamentalism, and they
don't like discipline."

"We will not lower our school's flag for an apostate!"

---Bob Jones, Jr. Commenting on LBJ's order that flags be lowered to half staff following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.

I wasn't aware that Fred Phelps was an allumni of BoJo.

Ah yes, BJU... I live just twenty minutes drive from their gates. Weird place. Weird people. You may think Rod and Todd Flanders are odd but... man! Whenever I drive by I make sure to roll down the windows and play some of the Devil's music for their appreciation. Some John Lee Hooker or Screamin' Jay Hawkins does the trick. I picture some kids walking across campus in ties or skirts down to their ankles hearing it and covering their ears as they writhe on the ground. It makes me smile anyway.

A married couple we're good friends with have lived here all their lives. Matt is white and Stef is black. They went to see the art collection years ago and were told they would have to leave. When they asked "why?" they were told by the mindless drone "We don't believe in race mixing." Matt deadpanned "Neither do we." and put his arm over Stef's shoulders. When the creepy robot guy insisted, Matt responded "You mean I can go home and watch the game and my wife can't drag me out here anymore? Hot damn!"

I still wonder who they'd allow me, a multi-racial young lady, to date...

Yeah, BJ Jr dropped it 6 years ago after it got a lot of bad press for them.

So, in other words, a fundumentalist interpretation of God's will from the bible can be altered in order to improve one's press image among the heathens and devil worshipers? :)

I have a fuzzy memory of a contemporaneous student-on-campus interview, wherein the student said that God created the caucasians, negros and orientals as distinct races, and we shouldn't try to mess with that. Yes, that's what they're learning at BJU. Sweet Mother McCree!

Hey, my boyfriend's ten years older. Don't feel too bad.

Stand aside Beady. I'm younger and single.:p

But I have a thing about dating ducks. Geese are ok. I'm kind of a fowlist.

Yourself? :p

Actually, didn't they drop the whole ethnicity/ dating rules thing?

I miscegenate with myself ALL the time.

And yes, yes they did as some one else pointed out.

Would they even allow you to exist?

Yeah. I've got three races. I think my presence on BJU would cause Head 'Splode...

Hey, who's up for a road trip?

Anyway, I've posted this before, but for more Good Times: http://www.bju.edu/prospective/expect/

Okay, that was mostly standard oppressive Christian college stuff until I got to the part about weapons.

Apparently, BJU students are often heavily armed. That scares me a little.

They did. But not because they saw the error of their racist dogma. It was mostly so they could retain their tax exempt status as I recall. It may have had to do with money they get from government sources as well.

Just thought I'd remind anyone who's seen the Cohen Brothers remake of The Lady Killers that the crazy old lady is always talking about sending money to Bob Jones University.
