ATLANTA -- Federal authorities said today they have captured a man they believe to be suspected serial bomber Eric Robert Rudolph.

"We have someone believed to be Eric Rudolph," the FBI duty agent in the Charlotte, N.C. office said today. CNN reported that one source says the government has confirmed a fingerprint match. However, there is official confirmation.

The man was digging in a trash bin in the small town of Murphy, N.C., when he was stopped at about 4:30 a.m., said Special Agent John Iannarelli in Washington. He said the man appeared to be homeless, but the deputies believe he is Rudolph.

Rudolph, who is now 36, has eluded capture for more than five years and set off massive manhunts through North Carolina mountains. Rudolph is charged with a bombing on July 27, 1996, at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta and two others in early 1997 at an Atlanta abortion clinic and gay nightclub. The Olympic Park blast killed an Albany, Ga., woman. A fourth and final bombing was attributed to Rudolph -- Jan. 29, 1998, outside a Birmingham women's clinic.More news stories here (http://news.google.com/news?num=30&hl=en&edition=&q=Eric+Robert+Rudolph).

It's about time!

Rudolph has crossed my mind from time to time ever since the abortion clinic bombing. You guys might remember that one because it was caught on video. Remember you could see the back of a blond woman's head and how her hair is blown back when the blast goes off?

The theory was that he was hiding with sympathizers in the North Carolina wildnerness.

The FBI always gets their man. ;)

I heard he was caught by some local yokel with only nine months on the job.

edit to add...

Now what's this rookie have to look forward to for the rest of his career? :)

It's likely to be the high point of his career.
