I'm thinking of something I did about in control systems, when a curve tends towards zero, there's a name for it, but I can't remember what it was.

I know that doesn't tend towards zero, but it's a cool math word anyway!

"Asymptotic" is probably what you mean.

Asymptotic is when the slope of the curve approaches zero.

Not necessarily.
y = x + 1/x asymptotically approaches y=x as x gets larger, yet its slope approaches 1.

Right. I was thinkinking of positively or negatively accelerated monotonic functions like growth and decay curves.
