What is this obsession with Fox news isn’t humor supposed to have some truth to it?
The left has three major networks why do they fill they have to destroy the only conservative news network.
So, after failing to smear fox with claims that where proven false we are resorting to slanderous humor.

A spoof or parody is based on reality. I think these classify as ad hominem attacks?

Putting aside the unintentional humor in the comment: "the left has three major networks..." (ask Malachi151 or AUP about "leftist" control of the three "major" networks...for a real debate).

It seems to me that the "right" always complains that the "left" imposes "politically correct" standards on things that makes them sacrosanct -- and does so in such a way as to curtail debate, discusion or realistic analysis. It further seems to me that for some who see themselves as "conservative" or of the "right," Fox news has become P.C. and, apparently, you can't make fun of it (even badly) -- its style, its biases, its graphics, its hyperventilation -- without inspiring a debate about "left" control over the media vs. "right" control of the media.

Oh well...I thought these were amusing, if in a Mad Magazine, juvenile and sillysort of way. However, methinks that it must have hit a little close to home if this is the reaction to it....

If you wish to compare fox’s so called biases to the other networks we can we bring up the liberal biases in the other networks because it’s far worse then fox.
So, if you wish to compare the biases you are welcome to start a new thread and I will be more then glad to comply.

What was so much funnier and satisfying than all these was watching O'Reilly get his ass handed to him on C-SPAN last weekend by Al Franken. Franken had a dummy jacket for his new book "Lying Liars and the Lies They Tell; A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right." Right there on the front of the book is a picture of O'Reilly, along with Ann Coulter and some others. Anyhow, it was obvious without a mute button to hide behind, Bill was defenseless against Franken. All he could do was just keep repeating "unbelievable" over and over. He looked white as a sheet, and at the end he stormed off the stage the other way from Franken. Molly Ivins was there too, and she almost halfway defended O'Reilly because she felt sorry for him getting his ass kicked.
It was a perfect illustration of what happens when a liberal and conservative are in a FAIR debate, the conservative gets paddled and the liberal gets the win. The only way the conservative wins is if he can mute the liberal or edit him out of his show.
The funniest part in retrospect may be O'Reilly starting off saying how different he is from Rush Limbaugh, and how he doesn't call names, then yelling at Al to shut up at least twice, and calling him an idiot once.
All this after Bill mentioned being on this panel on his show on Friday and saying he hoped he wouldn't have to "slap Al around". It was priceless. Made me proud to see someone let the air out of this hypocritical windbag. :D

Sorry, not interested in debating. I am sure you will not be able to convince me, and I certainly won't convince you. Indeed, I did not post the site for illustrative purposes or to make some grand point about Fox, its biases or lack thereof.

It was intended to be funny (if, as I stated above, juvinile). I thought some would be amused. Period. If it was funny and you enjoyed it, I am gratified. If you were not amused. Sorry. If you were not amused and felt the need to make some cosmic political point...get a life. Some things, like sophmoric humor and Mad Magazine can be ignored without sacrificing your sense of honor, pride or political principals. I suppose that you never would have laughed at a parody of Bill Clinton or Teddy Kennedy -- they being too evil, of course, to be funny. And, Hogan's Heros -- the gall of making a sit-com about a Nazi POW camp, and on and on (thank god we have Bill Bennett's Book of Virtues to help us keep our moral compass and to help us sift through what is funny from what is an attack on good ol' Amer'cn values).

Sorry this did not meet your profound humor standard. I ask that in the future when you see such posts from me, assume that I was trying to be funny (even if I fail) or to share something that someone might find amusing and move on...trust me, when I want to seriously debate a point, you will know it. You might even be surprised by where we might agree....

P.S. please feel free to drop some links to some good ol' "conservative" parody humor...while I disagree with him (I suspect) on many things, I thought Tony's pictures of Michael Moore and Bin Ladin were a stitch....:D

I must of misinterpreted your last post no harm done however I doubt if the author of the site was just trying to be funny and not make a political statement.
I’m glad you found some enjoyment from it I’m used to seeing posts supporting someone’s personal agenda in the P&CE forum.
Maybe I just need a break from the forum.

The reason Fox News is parodied a lot is, I think, not so much because of its political slant to the right, but because of the suspicioun that FOX News simply USES patriotism and pride of America as a money-making device.

Far from selling news, it is selling entertainment. The implied promise is that, no matter what happens, the viewer of FOX News will get the news presented in a "USA good, country X bad" fast-food packaging (complete with stirring music and a background graphics that usually has "America" or "Freedom" somewhere in the title).

This is good--for FOX News, since it makes sure the viewer (the real product the television industry sells to its real clients, the advertisers) will FEEL GOOD watching it, and thus will not change the channel. This will, of course, make FOX News money. Does the viewer actually LEARN anything from such braindead programming? Who cares?

WTF? Is that a joke? You give me a link to FOX NEWS for an account of this? What, you think they're going to admit that O'Reilly got his ass kicked and looked like a petulant little girl in the process? I assume you must be attempting humor with your link, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. ;)

...flys an American flag, as a lot of other channels did after 9-11 somewhere on the screen, constantly. What does it mean that Fox STILL does so, AND isn't all that active in reporting negative aspects of American policy?

I think Fox is Info-tainment at its very best. They give you a little bit of information, and a LOT of entertainment in the way of 'speculating experts', that have a very noticable lean toward nationalistic patriotism.

I write to Bill O'Reilly ALL THE TIME, no kidding. I've been doing so for about 2-3 years now, and he STILL hasn't 'stepped up to the plate', and answered some hard questions from ME!? And, I think it is irresponsible for Mr. O'Reilly to ignore my many many many pleas for respones of any kind to my questions, but alas he remains silent.

I can only say that I am available, Mr. O'Reilly if you ever DO decide to step up.

Pithy Comments...

Shallow, low brow observations, that make no matter, and move toward no purpose.

As I repeatedly said, I think O'Reilly is a loudmouth moron, but with all fairness he can't be blamed for ignoring you. He couldn't possibly read, let alone answer, let alone answer publically, more than a tiny percentage of the e-mails he gets. It is almost certainly not deliberate, but simply the fact that the change of ANYBODY getting an answer from O'Reilly is about the same as winning the lottery.

Of course, O'Reilly doesn't seem to realize the same is true for HIS constant "demands" from ex-president Clinton and others to come on his show or be labelled "cowards". He doesn't seem to realize that Clinton & co. are under no obligation to take any notice of his royal highness king O'Reilly the first, and that they probably recieve thousands of such e-mail "threats" and "demands" a day from assorted kooks.

...the point I was making. Right or wrong, he is guilty of the very same things he accuses the Clintons of.

I think Bill O'Reilly is a give and take. Sometimes I see he is going to do a segment on a topic I am interested in and I watch. Whenever he has jerry falwell on I watch because he he tells Falwell why he thinks he is wrong. I watched some of Falwell on Donahue a while back before Phil was cancelled and Phil couldn't match Bill's tenacity.

I think that like most things, you like Bill O'Reilly when he is on your side but hate him the rest of the time.

I watch the O'Reilly show almost everyday. I also watch NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN. People who watch only one news source run the danger of having their knowledge of world events biased towards that of the presenter. While I disagree with Mr. O'Reilly 90% of the time, I find myself agreeing with him the other 10%. Hey, when he's right, he's right.

It appears Mr. O'Reilly views everything as being either right or wrong, with very little gray area in between. When he puts down celebrities for voicing their political opinions, he fails to realize that when it comes down to basics, he, too, is little more than a celebrity entertainer. Whatever is true about his celebrity put downs can be equally applied to himself.

But, hey, I like to know how the right wing side of America sees current events, and there is no better place for that than FOX TV.
