Lots of interesting information has obviously been published about the events of September 11, and new information is still being revealed (for example, the recent Washington Post and Vanity Fair articles re. NORAD). There's a lot of CTers, doing lots of 'research', but I can't think of a single original and verifiable piece of information that they've brought to the public's knowledge. Am I missing something, or being too harsh? Even given all the mistakes they make, it would be impressive if they haven't added *anything* to the sum of our knowledge of events - but I really can't think of anything. Can others?

I think that's too harsh. While most of the information that the CTs present, like that we present, is publicly available, many CTs have pointed out and pressed for answers to shortcomings in every branch of the US government, as well as the military. In addition, there are several CT-slanted sites that present valuable compilations of information, photos, and videos. You just have to take their interpretations of that information with a healthy dose of salt. Some that come to mind are:
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/project.jsp?project=911_project
http://www.pentagonresearch.com/
http://911research.wtc7.net/
http://www.terrorize.dk/911/

I'm trying to think of any interesting CT FOIA requests that have turned up anything new, but I'm coming up blank right now.

Oh, they provided and are still providing valuable information...
Insights on the minds of believers, how misinformation can spread, etc.

Fair points - CTers have produced some interesting compilations of information. I can't think of anything in them thatwasn't already in the public domain - the couple of things I needed to reference, I tracked down versions elsewhere to confirm the source without much problem. I can't think of anything much coming from their own FOIA requests, but to have all that info in one place is definitely useful.
CTers certainly pressed for answers re. the shortcomings of US government. So did lots of others, though, and I'm not sure if the CTers helped them (added lots more pressure, and lots more eyes to look at the problems) or hindered them (made other people asking questions look like nutters). I probably am being too harsh, though - people keep e-mailing me and talking to me about this 'research'...
At any rate, it certainly is interesting to see how CT ideas spread.
